Adolescence is an awkward, terrible time. Most teenagers just want to hide in their room until the acne and weird growth spurts subside, but parents, as we all know, sometimes make those years just a bit difficult. However, while getting “the talk” from Mom and Dad might have made you cringe, at least you probably avoided the newest mortifying trend of period parties. Click the cut for a gallery of some items for such an event!
You can see even more period party goodies at the source. While I’m all for parents openly discussing puberty with their kids, I can’t imagine that many daughters would appreciate this approach. No, having your period isn’t something to be ashamed of, but try telling that to most teenage girls!
What do you think about the idea of period parties?

While we’re at it…
Might as well have a wet dream party, with mayonnaise-themed food items, sock puppets and origami napkin sculptures. And maybe a tadpole-catching contest! And little bottles of Vaseline and napkin boxes in each party favor bag.
Yay tadpoles!

@QuantumStorm@xanga - The vaseline and mayo could be used for the period party too!

I have never heard of this trend before, but I am glad I didn’t have to participate in a “period party”. Wow. Can things get more awkward? I think “the talk” is best done in private. When I become a parent of a pre-teen/teen, I intend on having a frank talk with my child, and encourage him/her to ask whatever questions they have, on their on terms.

I would kill my mom if she ever bought this for me when I was younger.
Also, lol @ the “Abstinence!” part on the decorations hahaha

Ah, I remember hearing about this a couple of years ago. I would have died from embarrassment if my mother ever did anything like that haha!
I wonder if anyone seriously does buy this stuff and use it…

Native Americans have a coming-of-age party for girls when they get their period, and Quinces come from an Aztec tradition from when girls also were official woman and could start having children.
guest
…okay, so these decorations exist, but do people actually USE them?

I think this would be funny in a close family with lots of girls, either sisters or aunts. The girl would get her period, and when she got back from school, her mom, sisters, aunts, female cousins, maybe grandma would be there with this stuff. And it happened to all her other sisters/cousins, so she’d just groan because she knew it was coming.
That is really the only scenario I can think of that this would not be stupid.

my mother threatened me with this when I was 8 or so she called it a little “women’s party”. I felt like I was dying in embarrasement already, and when it happened I just flushed the tampons away and didn’t tell anyone.
guest
um. there is no way i’d drink out of a menstruation-themed cup.

I’m so glad my parents didn’t tell me ANYTHING.

oh myyyy is this real? I would have been mortified

Hahahah!
