I’ve seen lots of girls wearing glasses just for fun. This made me wonder if they can just be an accessory instead of actually serving a purpose.
I personally wear glasses, and I don’t like the way I look in them. That’s why I usually wear contacts instead. I’m kind of taken aback when girls (or guys for that matter) wear glasses as an accessory. I feel like somehow they are mocking me. Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way. And maybe I’m just jealous that other people look good in glasses, when I feel that I don’t.
Either way, I feel that wearing glasses for fun is a bit weird. Why wear something for fun or for fashion purposes that is intended to help people see? That’s a bit confusing to me. And stores like Claire’s sell frames for about $10.00.
What do you think? Would you wear glasses as an accessory?

I’ve needed glasses since I was about 11 years of age. At first I didn’t really mind, but as my eyesight got worse, I HATED them. They pinched my nose, constantly slipped off, gave me headaches. I preferred contacts. But then my optometrist told me that I needed to use contacts less often and glasses more often because contacts were actually making my eyesight worse. So I got some really nice frames and didn’t mind the fact that I had to wear glasses too much.
Then I got Lasik (thank goodness) and I find that wearing non-prescription glasses aren’t too bad. What gave me the headaches was the prescription lenses. I still don’t like glasses THAT much, but they can be really cute depending on what look you’re going for. I definitely don’t mind them as an accessory as long as I don’t wear them too often. I still use my old frames with the lenses popped out

No. Angers the blind people who actually NEED them, like me.
It’s an expensive disability!!! Plus they just look stupid with lensless frames. I dunno, I’m bitter in those regards. lol. Spray some bleach in their eyes so they need them!! jk jk

@loneshadow_wolf@xanga - So you still need glasses after Lasik?
I hate it when people do this. I’d give anything to not wear glasses, not because of how they look but because they get dirty so easily and I hate having to wipe them at least ten times a day.

@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - Oh no, I don’t need glasses anymore. I just like wearing the frames (I popped out the lenses) from time to time :p

@loneshadow_wolf@xanga - A prescription lens should not be giving you headaches. Chances are the prescription was wrong. Even a slight deviation can really affect your vision or how your head feels. And if the prescription was right then if you went long periods without contacts/glasses that would likely be why – I used to spend summers without my glasses on and come September I’d have headaches for a while as my brain adjusted to the now slightly off prescription. And the prescription being slightly too weak would then also affect how my eyes and head felt.
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - If your vision’s bad enough without them on, then you can at least use that as an excuse to not see something you don’t want to see. I’ve done it before. Totally works.Especially if I close or obscure my right (better vision) eye.
I personally think lensless frames for fashion looks incredibly stupid. I love my glasses, glasses suit me. I have to use plastic frames because the little things at the bridge part on metal frames that’s used to keep the frames on your nose would be annoying and uncomfortable.

@ShirleyD@xanga - Do you ever get the urge to poke them through the lens gap? I do sometimes. Because then they’d not be able to do that to me unless they took my glasses off.

@ashleynicole - It was more when I looked to the sides that gave me the headaches. That and when the frames sat on my nose for too long it felt pinched and would give me headaches. I have no nose bridge

I wear glasses when I was young I hated them but now I think they are alright. It still sucks cleaning them every five minutes. But I need them or I can’t see haha
guest
@ashleynicole - Haha, yes actually!!! Too often.

I picked out couple of frames that are fashionable and compliment my eyes and face so yes in away they are my fashion statement… I just love the gal on Criminal Minds glasses she is just so dang darling

as someone who is practically blind without contacts or glasses, i find the glasses trend to be about as stupid as someone using crutches because it looks cool.

If you need glasses to correct your vision, it is perfectly acceptable to choose stylish frames. But, if you are wearing frames without the lenses to go for a particular look, that is kind of silly to me.
@ShirleyD@xanga - I don’t get it either. I want to ask those people, “If you don’t need them, why bother?!”
@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - I hate how they get dirty, too! And you can’t just wipe them with any old thing because over time the lenses get scratched if you use abrasive cloths. So annoying.

@loneshadow_wolf@xanga - I had a similar issue with metal frames in regards to nose pinching, and those “soft” bridge pieces would actually put a lot of pressure on my nose and that would regularly contribute to headaches or just general head pressure. I don’t get that issue at all with plastic frames. And looked to the sides like the sides of the lens or to the very side past your glasses? Because looking too far to the side gives me headaches as well, but that has nothing to do with my glasses as it happens if I’m wearing or not wearing them.
As for people commenting on dirty lenses, getting the better coating on them does help, although they still get dusty and such but it’s far more tolerable. But those commercials for those pricey types of lenses, they are so lying about how amazing they are and how they will never get dirty. PFT.

I disagree with everyone who says “I have to wear glasses for real, so I hate when people wear them for fun!” My eyesight is terrible (I’ve only ever met 2 or 3 people with eyes worse than mine), and I can’t wear contacts because my eyes dry out too fast. I’ve been wearing glasses for distance since I was 6 and for “all the time” since I was 8. If other people think my glasses look cool and they want to get a fake pair as an accessory, that’s fine by me. I think my glasses look pretty awesome (or else I wouldn’t have bought this particular frame), so why shouldn’t someone else get to also rock awesome frames? I really see no problem with it at all, and like I said, my eyesight is horrendous. Maybe that’s why I can’t see what other glasses wearers see with this “issue” bahahaha (sorry, bad pun. Had to happen).

As someone who needs to wear (and loathes wearing) glasses, if it looks good on your face and you like it, more power to you.

When I was in first grade, my teacher started the “Glasses Club.” She and all the students in the class with glasses got to be in it. That is when I got an infatuation with glasses. I remember making my dad take me to the eye doctor, claiming I couldn’t see. In 7th grade I wore fake glasses, and every once in a blue moon I still do. I’m now quite thankful for having good vision, but I still think some nice frames look really cute!

I don’t see why not. I’m positive no one is exactly out to mock you. It’s like a man with no legs being pissed we’re all wearing pants, come on; It’s like a D-cup woman being pissed an A-cup girl is stuffing her bra. I dye my hair. Am I making a mockery of brunettes? I’m totally out to get every single one.

I kind of get upset when people who don’t need glasses wear them. I mean, you can have my terrible vision if you REALLY want to wear them; I would have no problem switching haha

I dont need glasses but i think they look cute, so id love to be able to wear non prescription glasses as an accessory but i usually dont because i know so many people who get upset about that and people will angrily judge me if i did so. I know people dont wish for bad eyesight, but i dont see how this would offend so many people. Anyway fake glasses are too synonymous with hipsters now so ill leave it to them.

wearing the glasses for accessory is not nessacery, i have a very bad version and i have to wear them all the time, but those glass is wearing just for fun, when the popularility of ones increase, their value didnt always go the same direction, that is the true…

@rabbitsarecool14@xanga - I think people who wear them for “fun” don’t realise how much of a hassle they actually are, lol. They’re expensive, if you break them you can’t see a thing, going swimming is hard because you can’t see anything, you can’t see if you go out in the rain, they steam up as soon as you go inside in the winter and they need to be cleaned constantly. It’s just…I think us glasses-wearing folk don’t understand why you’d want to wear something that’s such a hassle, haha.

I think wearing fake glasses just looks stupid, and I don’t understand why you’d voluntarily wear something that causes people so much annoyance. Like, if you NEED glasses to function, you have to pay for them, clean them constantly, and if it rains or snows, you can say goodbye to being able to see where you’re going – they’re just frustrating and I don’t get why someone would want to wear something unnecessary that other people NEED to lead a normal life.

I work at an eyeglass store, and I get a lot of customers who actually do wear glasses that would like more than one pair just because of the fashion. To each his own, I guess.
guest
I wear fake glasses (they have fake lenses, too.) Who cares. I don’t put too much stock into what other people are wearing, didn’t know so many people had opinions on what I wear. I’m flattered.

I never had a choice about wearing glasses because a tip from my 2nd grade school teacher to my folks got me diagnosed legally blind in one eye at age 7. In my first pair of glasses, I was totally awed by what I saw on the way back to where we lived! By now, I feel naked without them but I don’t have to fool with eye cosmetics (too risky for eye irritation/infection) and can go low-key on earrings and necklaces. However, I used to help a beautician friend with her housework and she had a collection of over 30 pairs of fashion frames, the first time I ever considered such a thing. I was impressed! I think it’s a neat idea.

I hate seeing people wearing glasses as a fashion statement because I have had them since second grade. I have no choice in the matter and I hate waking up and not being able to see. Yes I am probably a little bitter about it but they should just be happy with the fact that they DON’T need glasses. My friends used to say, “Oh I wish I had glasses, I would look so cute in them” and I would just tell them to shut up. LOL.

lol I wear glasses, too! And I find it ridiculous when people wear them for fun. I want to hit them. It’s like wearing a hearing aid for fun or using a walker for fun. It’s just darn silly. If you want frames, wear sunglasses.
I feel like following this “trend” is a hipster thing… Which is beyond dumb.
guest
Don’t mind if people wear them for fun. I’d like to wear them for fun but I’m afraid of people insulting me because I have good vision…much like the commenters on this site. But fuck you guys, I’ll wear them if I want to.

Glasses can be sexy.
