One of the conditions of being a great super model is that you have to be really cool about dramatic hair changes. One of the more hilarious episodes of America’s Next Top Model is always the one where they do the hair cuts and color. You almost always see a girl crying about what they did to her hair. A girl I knew from my hometown was on that show, and they didn’t change her hair that much, but they did have to shave her armpits.
We have such a weird psychological attachment to our hair, and some times you don’t even realize it until it’s too late. I encounter this everyday at my job. I see women freaking out over bangs that are cut just slightly too short or color that’s not exactly what they wanted. Sometimes it is totally justified and sometimes it’s that their goal was unrealistic. Models just have to live with it. But then again, they do get paid quite a bit, so if changing their hair is one of the more traumatizing things they have to do… I can’t say I wouldn’t do it myself.
Do you think these models look better before or after the hair makeovers?

Two of my friends are models and they have to put up with some pretty strange things, but neither one of them has been forced to cut their hair. Most photographers are fine with just using wigs. Bleached eyebrows however, is something you cannot fake.

I’ve known agencies who recommend their models to undergo a lot of things including losing more weight, getting botox and some plastic surgery. Frankly, to be told to get a new haircut is a sigh of relief! Besides, it can always grow back, so why cry or chuck a tantrum over it?

Well, they don’t have to live with it – nobody’s forcing them to be models if they don’t want to be.

Holy SHIT @ Crystal Renn ! Actually I’ve been thinking about bleaching my eyebrows to match my now Nordic-blonde hair, and she pulls it off pretty well though I like her better as a brunette.
Also, maybe it’s because I love to experiment with my hair, but I don’t understand why girls get so upset about cutting/coloring their hair. It grows back, you can re-color it…it’s not permanent. And unless the stylist gave you a 5-inch high mohawk or a buzz cut or a bad 90′s bowl cut, it really can’t look THAT bad.

@hot_metalhead@xanga - oh yeah I agree…she looks way better as a brunette. Ive never been a cry baby about hair. Ive had it super shirt and long and every color of the rainbow. Its pretty rare that someone actually gets a technically bad haircut… usually its just a lack of communication or unreal expectations that result in an unhappy client… not lack of skill.
