Oh dear. It seems a New York woman has been arrested for participating in “take your daughter to the tanning salon” day. And, judging by the mom’s above appearance, I have a feeling she’s going to have trouble talking her way out of this one.
When Patricia Krentcil’s 5-year-old daughter came to school with a sunburn, she told her classmates that she “went tanning with Mommy.” Now Patricia is being charged with second-degree child endangerment for taking her daughter into a tanning bed. Her mug shot is featured below:
While Patricia says her daughter got burned from playing outside, it remains to be seen if her own ultra-tanned appearance will have an impact on her case. [via Buzzfeed]

nope, I don’t even go there myself…sunny caribean not a good business place for tanning salons. I do tkae my six year old to have her hair braided but we do our nails at home as a game. I guess a tanning bed isn’t healthy for an adult less of all for a kid.

The only time I would ever take a 5-year old to the tanning salon is to observe the people using it and to show the child how stupid some people can be.

No, I would not bring a small child to the tanning salon because I don’t believe in tanning. My future children will be slathered in sunscreen before heading out, especially after being warned by a peer (at 29) that skin cancer is no joke. Children have skin more delicate than adults, and is more prone to be burnt. What was this woman thinking?!

The mom looks like a Deku Scrub.

But, I cant even tell that she is tanned… lol..And we all thought Snooki looked like an Oompa Loompa
But seriously, thats fucked up.. I’ve never been to a tanning bed, let alone bring a KID into one! Thats really messed up. Their skin is more sensative than an adults…. Also, I know this one adult who has had skin cancer scares and yet… She still goes tanning every other day.. Some people dont learn, smh..

No. Even though I live in Iceland, I never go tanning and I would obviously never take my kids to do something pointless and dangerous. The exception might be if my kid had a skin condition like psoriasis, but it doesn’t look like that’s the case here. Actually, in Iceland you need to be 18 years old to go to a tanning salon, so I guess it wouldn’t really be an option anyway without a prescription.
I had a friend in high school who went tanning quite a lot. I’m 22 and we’re the same age and she has already been through cancer treatment twice. I’m so glad I never did any of that stuff.

Nobody should be going to tanning beds until they’re legal adults (unless it’s been medically prescribed by a doctor). Young children should NOT be exposed to such strong, harmful rays. No wonder people are getting diagnosed with skin cancer at such young ages.

No I wouldn’t bring my child to a tanning salon. actually I’m pretty sure it’s against the law for little kids to be tanning there anyway. BUT this one seems hard because the mom given her appearance doesn’t mean anything.,,. Like she could have been tanning herself (obv we see that clearly) but just because SHE was tanning technically doesn’t mean her kids were. BUT then again a five year old did say that she was tanning with her mom and typically kids don’t lie unless they have issues/ family drama/ or seeing others lie.

She was from New Jersey not New York. Either way, I’m not surprised that someone from either state was dumb enough to take their 5-year-old tanning.

@jaimecaitlyn@xanga - If she looked like your typical person who goes to the tanning salon, I would feel that people are just jumping to conclusions using her appearance as the basis. But it looks like she has a serious problem, and is very addicted to tanning that she has made herself look as bad a she has. It seems to me very plausible she’d allow her daughter to use a tanning bed. I’m not necessarily saying I think this woman told her daughter she should get a tan. I would believe the girl asked and her mom, clearly not aware of her own problem, thought “sure, why not”.

@Love_never_fails - does it really matter what state they’re from?

@xTHATnena@xanga - Why should we believe anything written in this post if he/she can’t even tell us the correct state? lol

@kackie - Oh my. The resemblance is uncanny!

@xTHATnena@xanga - I was being sarcastic but people from NY and NJ aren’t stereotypically seen as being too intelligent.

@jaimecaitlyn@xanga - The law from what I’ve heard bans anyone younger than 14 from using a tanning bed. And I think if you’re under the age of 18, you need a parents’ consent

I MYSELF would never use a tanning bed, let alone ever take a child to one. If I have kids, they will be forbidden to use tanning beds. My friend’s sister died from skin cancer at the age of 25; she started tanning at 15. I would NEVER put my life at risk just to look tan. I personally think fair skin is much prettier.

I don’t even go to tanning beds, yuck.
guest
@Love_never_fails – yeah I thought little kids couldn’t tan. But thank you
guest
@Digital_Angel21 – Very true!

I wouldn’t even go to a tanning bed so I wouldn’t take anyone else. That woman has taken tanning to the extreme.

before i even read anything and saw that picture i started cracking up.

0_o That’s scary! Stop. stoooop. not the face! I’m crying

In Germany tanning beds are forbidden for everyone under age 16. (or is it 18 by now?) and that obviously has a reason.
It’s not an “excuse” if the daughter got burnt outside…tanning is more dangerous than the sun. I don’t think it should depend on wether she’s injured or not, if that’s how they detrmine the punishment. Maybe the kid was so proud of tanning like tha grown ups that she told a lie.
I don’t know if she was terribly uninformed or just plainly careless. I think the punishment is a little harsh, especially regarding that a child is involved and I would NOT want to stand inbetween their relationship by telling the kid the mom was an unrespectable criminal, and regarding that she did it for the first time (apparently). A warning should have been enough.
Another law here is that the staff in the tanning salons tell you about the dangers, and not e.g. let you tan more than your skin type can take, because many people seem to be unaware or brush it under the rug. I think it’s a good law, bc otherwise they’d let anyone tan or even downplay the dangers to increase profit. Whoever let her tan other than the mother (if it was a public salon) MUSt have known the dangers and should have prevented it too. They could also AT LEAST have determined a time for the kid to stay in the bed so she does NOT get burnt, because that can be prevented, but it’s not something the average person can calculate.
guest
@under_the_carpet@xanga - I believe the story is the mother sneaked the girl in, and the tanning salon didn’t know
guest
It really frightens me that such people are allowed to procreate.
guest
@jaimecaitlyn@xanga - @Love_never_fails - kids under fourteen “can’t” use them by law, but you can have tanning beds in your own home, and I doubt the government and the police are really going to check up on who’s using them.

people are seriouisuly crazy, dark sin people bleach their skin, light skin people darken their skin, why cant people just be happy with their skin tone, I understand we all want some kind of GLOW but theres makeup for that!
this women is just hidious and insane for even putting her daughter through this!
guest
@Digital_Angel21@xanga - yeah could be…

Tell me this is a joke !! .. Oh my * god !
Seriously .. people!

Something is clearly amiss here – why is she so dark in one picture, and yet her mug shot shows her with a very fair complexion? These are both recent pics.

Although I do not support tanning in any way, I think that tanning salons should have age restrictions, at least. This way people like her would not be able to get their children tanned. There are people getting their 2 year olds tanned, thanks to shows like Toddlers and Tiaras.
I don’t see why people would have to be tanned to look beautiful.
guest
@Love_never_fails - Hahaha, what you see on Jersey shore doesn’t accurately represent the rest of Jersey. Some of us are very intelligent, some of us aren’t, like the rest of the U.S. And I would like to point out Princeton and Columbia are both located in NJ and NY and they’re full of students from the tri-state area, myself included.

I seriously think that the woman did not actually bring the child tanning. I think the child got confused. The mother claimed that they were gardening that weekend and the daughter was outside playing. Now as a child, she would see her mother tanning all the time and understand that tanning is held a high priority to be beautiful. Im sure the mother made some comment while they are outside and probably many times before that they were tanning while outside. The mother obviously has an addiction to tanning but that does not mean she would bring her daughter tanning. Dont all the booths have cameras?? I am sure they can actually see if she did it or not.

There’s a “take your daughter to the tanning salon” day? Say what? If such a day truly exists, I’m sure they meant your teenage daughter. Some people are complete idiots.
guest
Even though I want to see the mom dipped in Coppertone for the next ten years, I gotta admit there’s no way that kid was burned from a tanning bed. The kids of people like her are urchins… if they can’t sit still in a restaurant, what makes you think they can park their keister for that?
guest
@Love_never_fails - “people from NY and NJ aren’t stereotypically seen as being too intelligent” That is a pretty ignorant thing to say. But I guess you’re entitled to your opinion. Just remember that Thomas Edison invented many things including the light bulb in NJ.
guest
I don’t understand why everyone is making a big deal out of this. How many kids are abused every day, and the media blows this out of proportion? Her and her husband said she went to the salon with her mom, she did not go inside the room. The tanning place, I’m sure, would not even have allowed that. Leave the poor woman alone.

@Stacey@xanga - I’m talking the reputation that people from NY and NJ have today. I know not everyone from these states are stupid but people like the people from Jersey Shore and Real Housewives seriously do not help their case. And this lady seems like she could be lumped in with those people. I live in Pennsylvania close to NYC and the New Jersey border and seriously we all make fun of NY and NJ just because we’re close to them. It was a sarcastic remark and not meant to be taken seriously.

ok, gang. we’ve all heard the jokes about “tanning mom,” etc. let’s put this in perspective, shall we? i don’t know whether she did take her daughter in to the booth with her, or not; if you’ve ever tanned, you know that there’s not a lot of room inside for more than one person, AND good coverage. however, that’s a point for the courts to determine. what i’m going to address is the ridicule that’s been heaped on patricia, and i hope you’ll bear with me.
listening to her speak, reading quotes of hers, i gotta say — she doesn’t sound like she’s a terribly bright woman. looking at her skin, i do believe she has issues. i don’t know what her educational background is, nor much else about her (does anyone of us who are so full of opinions?). what i do know is simple: somewhere along the way, wires got crossed, and she decided that being “tan” was very important to her sense of self, and self-esteem. what’s your schtick? we all know there are addictions to just about everything — whether it’s food, cigarettes, alcohol, exercise, sex … so what’s your schtick? yeah, hers isn’t as easily hidden as some others may be. people? sorry, i’m going to sound like a holy-roller or something, but i really believe this woman needs to be reached with compassion, rather than ridicule. not only is she so obviously harming herself, but her example to her children can’t be understated. what can be done to help her? not much, unless she recognizes that she went a little astray somewhere. but i’d really love to see a lot more “wow, she really needs help” than “how much for the talking leather couch?”
just my two cents’ worth.
