It can be argued that Gwen Stefani introduced the Harajuku trend to mainstream America a few years ago, and that our interest in it has come and gone. That doesn’t mean, however, that the style has disappeared! Harajuku is still alive, well and cute and Japan, and here is a gallery to prove it!
While I’m nowhere near brave enough to rock full-on Harajuku style, certain looks from the trend do pop up in my wardrobe. I own a neon accessory or two, love pairing a crazy-print top with an otherwise simple outfit and have been known to put a streak of color in my hair. Mad props to these ladies for proudly showing off their personal styles!
What do you think of the harajuku look?

The first chick is seriously rocking (with the red t-shirt). Love her!

You just gotta go to Disney Land, and you’ll see a bunch of people like this
Thats something I remember the most from when I was like.. 11 lol

I would have loved this look when I was 19, I don’t like it so much anymore. It looks cute on other people. Even if I still liked it. I feel like I would look like Jerri Blank (Amy Sedaris) from Strangers with Candy.

I like the “lolita” look best. =) But these colorful looks are rad too.

its like…….ravers and scene kids and hippy-dippys and hipsters all had some awful orgie and through some miracle of science harajuku was born. (not to say harajuku or any of those things are awful, i just think them all naked and rubbing on each other is awful.)

Reminds me of the American Candy kids

I think these ladies are all so cute!
I get hungry for cupcakes just looking at them.

I do both Lolita and Harajuku (mostly when I go to anime conventions, but sometimes when I’m bored and just want to look and feel really cute) and it is so much fun! It looks like people just throw a bunch of colors and stuff on themselves with Harajuku styles, but seriously this is a difficult look to achieve and do right. If you don’t do it correctly, it looks like a rainbow puked all over you and you look like a hot mess.
Love the pics!

Every fashion scene needs some people who go WAY to the extreme. That way we all get good ideas!

it really pisses me off that nicki minaj(ew ew ew) claims to be the “harajuku barbie” just because she sometimes dresses up like a drugged up raver does not mean her style is anywhere near harajuku, and the fact that she thinks she does means she knows nothing about harajuku or japanese style in general.she is a style fail

I like the “lolita” style best (particularly, gothic lolita) but love these pics!!

I was expecting gothic lolita *disappointed*

I think it looks like fun! I could totally see a day of ‘dress up’ with my little one coming out like this.

The looks are simply funky and amazing and are worth trying if yo wanted to have some fun or go out and have ALL EYE’s ON YOU!
I personally would give it a try, some on them look kinda familiar to what we see on a normal basis from up and coming new artist, now to wear on a daily basis is a bit over the top.

I don’t like the whole “let’s see how many cute things I can wear at once” look (I think it’s kinda tacky) but I love the individual pieces by themselves <3
I love the classic lolita, mori-girl and “dolly-kei” trends personally, I just think they’re flippin’ awesome!
