While reading Elle, Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar recently, I’ve noticed that orange lipstick is supposed to be big this summer. While this trend is supposedly going to be huge this summer, I’m not sure that I’m on board.
Even though these magazines are saying that orange lipstick is a new trend, I’ve seen many photos from last year and even the year before of celebs wearing orange lipstick. Maybe it’s time now for regular women to try the trend if they haven’t already.
Some celebs (and regular people, too) look great with tangerine lips. And some people, including me, just can not pull off this look. When I wear orange lipstick, I look like I just ate a popsicle or I am five-years-old again playing with makeup.
I think skin tone has a lot to do with whether a lip color looks appropriate on a person. Heidi Klum, Heather Morris and Amber Stevens have tried out the look, and they pull it off quite well. While I can clearly see that they have different skin tones, I still think skin tone plays a major role. Heidi and Amber also have light hair. Maybe hair color plays a part, too. I think it might be everything put together. Either you need to have light hair and a reddish skin tone or you need to have a more yellowish/tan skin tone with darker hair. Maybe I’m just making all of this up as an excuse for why orange lipstick doesn’t work for me!
I guess if you’re daring enough to try out orange lips, hopefully the color looks great on you. But as for me, I’ll steer clear of the oranges so I don’t look like a five-year-old trying to wear makeup. Check out the gallery to see more celebs wearing orange lipstick.

I really don’t think it’d look flattering on my skin tone.

I pretty much stay away from trends in makeup.

I think it look’s lovely as long as the rest of the look is simple… It’s a nice little edge.

I don’t think orange lipstick would look right with my coloring, but I do like how Selena Gomez and Olivia Wilde are wearing theirs. I also think orange goes with the robin’s egg blue that Emmy Rossum is wearing but it doesn’t seem to work with her skin tone. I might try coral, it’s a little softer but has a hint of orange.

I like.

I think coral is slightly better.

I wear orange eye makeup, so why not orange lipstick!

I love orange lipstick, but I think I will steer clear of it because my teeth are yellowish tinted (thanks, coffee).

Ick. No thanks!

I’ve been obsessed with orange lipstick since winter! Loooove orange! And skin tone definitely has a big role, you can’t expect to get one color of lipstick and think it’ll look good on you cause it looks good on everyone else. That’s why there are different shades of lipstick
michelle phan made a video of how to find the right shade of red lipstick for you.

I have the perfect complexion for orange, peachy, gold, coral lipsticks. I wear them year around because they’re some of the only colors that don’t look disgusting on me. For reference I am fair, redheaded, and yellow toned. Any reds I can wear have to be orange or brick based.

@Proud2B2003@xanga - I won’t wear makeup just because it’s a trend, but if it’s trendy and also looks really flattering, I’ll definitely go for it.

I look great in orange lipstick and wear it a lot. It’s one of my most flattering colors, so I’ll still go with it when the trend wanes.
I encourage other pale girls to try it. It really wakes up my fair complexion.

@Pickwick12 – I just meant for myself. I’m glad that others are able to do so.
I’m glad that you enjoy the some of the trends more than I do.

I think it’s also important to have classic looks that always flatter, no matter what new things come out.

Sure, why not. I have a neutral undertone so most colors look well on me. I love seeing other people be bold and do something out of the ordinary.

Eh I’ve always looked better in smokey/rosy colors.

too bad i’m allergic to putting shit on my lips -_-

I’d wear it, I think I could rock it a lot better than the red lipstick trend… I could never find the right shade for me with that
