Even though Urban Outfitters' CEO has contributed money to Rick Santorum's (now-defunct) campaign, it seems that his politics aren't exactly aligned with what his company is preaching. The store's catalog this month has a shot of two women kissing, and conservative groups are unsurprisingly appalled!
The right-wing group One Million Moms (who previously tried to get Ellen DeGeneres outed as JCPenney's spokesperson) are now trying to save the innocence of hipsters-in-training who might be exposed to UO's photo. Today it released a statement saying that:
On page two of this catalog is a picture of two women kissing in a face holding embrace! The ad and catalog are clearly geared toward teenagers. The content is offensive and inappropriate for a teen who is the company's target customer.
The organization is now trying to get its followers to cut ties with Urban, which will likely affect about .05% of its customer base.
While the shot isn't terribly controversial in the grand view of American culture, it would be nice to see UO (and its CEO) take a hard stance on this issue, so we know where our money is (or isn't) going. [via Jezebel]
What do you think of the ad? Is it inappropriate?
