The company Idol Kill has released a line of celebrity votive candles, which are sure to leave most people either excited or appalled. “Saint Nicki” is pictured above, and Kanye, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani and more also make appearances. Take a look at some of them after the cut!
You can see the rest of the candles over at Idol Kill’s site, but don’t expect to buy one; at $10 they’re relatively inexpensive, and have sold out already! [via Jezebel]
Are these candles fun or tacky? Which celebrities would you like to see on them next?

I read “after the cut” as “after the cult”
heh

I’m don’t really attend church nowadays, but I was raised Catholic and my grandma always has one of these…..Personally I’m sad to say I find this kind of offensive. :/ Those candles are special to some people (especially to my grandma) and I just think it’s distasteful to put someone like Kanye West or Lady Gaga on them.

Ridiculous and dumb. They kinda bring a whole new meaning to the term “celebrity worship”.
guest
I like them.
I’ve seen some people get upset over these, but a large part of them are also people I’ve heard make jokes about Islam/Hinduism/Race/rape/violence so I don’t really think they have any right to complain.
guest
@randomneuralfirings@xanga - I think that’s kind of the point. It’s a statement candle, if you will.
guest
No I would not buy them. It makes me think celebrities are “higher” than us as people. Would you do that? I don’t think so. So why do they? For money? It’s ridiculous.
guest
Crass.
guest
Absolutely not.
guest
Ummmm, no. People worship celebrities like idols anyway, why would I want a piece of kitsch in my house to remind me of that fact?
guest
HAHAHAAAA
OMG THESE ARE THE SHIT!!!
Totally buying Gaga.
guest
It’s beyond tacky and ridiculous.
Of course, there will always be idiots that will spend their money on anything with Lady Caca or that Nicki broad, etc. How about some toilet paper with Lady Caca’s face? Now THAT would be something!

HELL YES. I want the Marilyn one, why wasn’t that listed? Best one.
I want the Gaga one so I can listen to Bloody Mary. It’s so perfect.

I’m anything but religious. Even so, I feel this takes mockery too far. And this is coming from a devout Marilyn Manson fan. >_<;

Why?

i’m not even devout, buuuut just to point out… within the context of MAINSTREAM MEDIA, christian symbolism has been consistently made a mockery of and desecrated, more so than any other religion.
isn’t it sad our culture now openly practices idolatry? encourages it, is more fitting.western mainstream culture is shit and nicki minaj looks like a devil on that candle.
anyway- tacky, tacky, tacky- even if i didn’t hold this opinion.

Absolute devilish blasphemy – and I’m not even a devout Catholic. This is disgusting Illuminati devil worship.

It’s a novelty item folks, and remember, not everyone is of the same religion as you are. It’s ridiculous to believe that just because you are offended, that they shouldn’t be able to sell these.

How offensive, and I’m not even Catholic anymore.

I feel like it is possible the artist is trying to make a statement about celebrity worship, and not caring if it comes off offensive as opposed to just trying to blatantly offensive. There are prints for sale of all the art work on the votive candles. I just would love to figure out the honest motivation behind these designs by the artist.
I can’t really comment on whether it is offensive or not because I’m not Catholic, didn’t grow up in a Catholic family, so I have no concept of the significance of these votive candles when used religiously.

@hallentine@xanga -
You too?
guest
@Digital_Angel21@xanga - it could either be a statement that we as humans are pathetic enough to buy such candles, and they are capitalizing on that fact
-or-
they truly believe it’s cool to put celebrities on candles depicted as gods/people of worship.
Either way, I think it’s decent offense towards religion.

I can already see this happening: “Pray 10 hail gagas and four gwen stefanis”

I find them offensive, even though I don’t personally use religious candles at home. They mock something that is very meaningful to many people. Also they just promote worshiping fame/celebrities which is bad enough as is. I am a fan of many famous people actors, singers, bands but I think this takes it too far.
