Jennifer Love Hewitt, who recently said she’s got her eye on newly single Adam Levine, may have the means to draw him in. No flirtation, no sexy dresses: vanilla extract.
“I carry McCormick’s Pure Vanilla [in my purse] — the baking kind — and dab it on my neck… Men are attracted to the scent! One time, I put it on and four different guys were like, ‘You smell amazing!’” (Via Us Weekly)
Us Weekly‘s inspection of her bag proved to be true: notice the black bottle and red cap? Pure vanilla extract. Possibly a bit weird, but apparently it works well to attract men.
I absolutely adore the smell of vanilla. Still, putting an extract for baking on my body is a little too strange for my taste, now matter how great the effect is. Instead, I use Victoria’s Secret fragrance mist in Vanilla Lace.
Lovelies, do you have any unconventional perfume choices? If not, what’s your favorite scent to wear?

Very interesting…
And she is so stinking pretty!

Now I wish to watch Sister Act 2 to see her all sassy and young.

Why is it odd? If you blend your own scents, the vanilla extract is virtually identical to the fragrance or essential oil they would use. It also smells TONS better than the VS stuff. That stuff smells nothing like vanilla to me.
There is a store I go to that does custom scents. I love, LOVE, LOVE my clove, bamboo, bergamont blend. Bath and Body works sells essential oils, but they’ve greatly reduced the essential oils that they carry in favor of cheap smelling stuff. If I don’t wear a custom blend, I wear Daisy by Marc Jacobs.

Really… Adam Levine?

I don’t find vanilla to be a strange scent to wear because I wear a vanilla-based fragrance all the time. What girl doesn’t want to smell delicious, like a cookie? I don’t think I will try wearing vanilla extract straight up like Jennifer does, but I often reach for Victoria’s Secret Dream Angels Heavenly–my favorite, been wearing it for many years.

Haha interesting! Might be good in a pinch

I’d totally do it. Actually, I’m going to try. Today!

WAY back in 8th grade I read an article in Girl’s Life Magazine (hah don’t judge I was 13) that guys are attracted to sweet scents, especially vanilla. I purchased a perfume that smelled like vanilla and several guys complemented me! And now, reading this while in college, I totally think Jennifer Love Hewitt is right.

Done it; still husband’s favorite scent.

Vanilla and cinnamon are widely known to attract people of both genders. It makes sense, gourmand smells are quite universal; they’re sensual, sweet and reminiscient of that which we all love: food!

I’ve done this when I’m running low on perfume and I’ve gotta say she’s right. Guys really seem to go for it. I don’t really wear perfume to impress guys though, haha, so I’m not going to start doing this regularly.

I put it in my apple cider vinegar hair rinse along with a cinnamon stick. My hair tends to smell delicious.

@Digital_Angel21@xanga - That’s a really sick idea! I’ll have to do that sometime soon

wait… adam levine broke up with the vs model??

haha I’ve heard that too about men, and I also got complimented for my vanilla perfumes. Alledgedly there are certain scents that women feel atrracted to too, but I only know I hate most “male” scents. I do love vanilla though.

@andysigdelt@xanga - maybe that’s what i’m doing wrong >.< i generally dislike sweet scents!
@Digital_Angel21@xanga - that’s so awesome! i have cinnamon sticks and apple cider vinegar…O.O

People have been doing that for decades; it’s nothing new. Also, why would anyone find that weird? It’s alcohol. You spray alcohol on your body all the time when you use fragrances.

That’s funny. From what Ms. Hewitt wrote in her book The Day I Shot Cupid, the scent that apparently drives men really wild is that of cinnamon rolls.
