Hunger Games fans are either going to be very irate or very excited by the long-rumored release of a Katniss Everdeen Barbie. Complete with a bow, arrows and a mockingjay pin, she’s the perfect toy for girls who are sick of Barbie’s dream wedding sets (or just the perfect addition to a collector’s shelf). Check out the full doll after the cut!
While making a Barbie based on a series about kids slaughtering each other is a bit odd, I adore this doll. I’m far from a toy collector (the only “juvenile” decor in my house is a giant stuffed Totoro), but the idea of a weapon-weilding Barbie is just so cool. I wish outdoorsy 10-year-old me had this to play with, and I’m tempted to snag one for the future kid I may have someday! [via Jezebel]
What do you think of the Katniss Barbie?

I WANT ONE. I’m surprised they didn’t make her hair curly though.

They did a pretty good job with her.

Honestly, I am disappointed that it looks more like a Bratz doll than Barbie. This is a collector’s doll and I probably wouldn’t buy it for my child unless she just wanted it. IMO, little girls that can’t imagine their dolls doing things beyond the accessories they come with need to work on their imaginations. My Barbie could do anything in her pink swimsuit and high heeled pumps.

I would have made up so many adventures/stories with this doll when I was younger..

Totoro is so much cooler than her
totoro can fly^^ one rumbling stomp and he can make the sky rain
she is just a biped, who just shoots arrows

I like it. & I love how you said, “While making a Barbie based on a series about kids slaughtering each other is a bit odd, I adore this doll.” I think Katniss Everdeen is a good role model because of her strength, and that she tries to do the right thing.
@Jenny_Wren@xanga - I know, right?!

I so want that!

But do kids who play with barbies even know who Katniss is? I wouldn’t take my six/seven year old to see the Hunger Games and there’s no way they’d be able to read the books…so it just seems like a money-making thing to me. It’s not like a six year old would say “I want a Katniss barbie mummy, she’s so strong and brave” lol.

I feel like it goes against the idea of the book honestly. I mean, The Hunger Games is just as much a commentary on the senseless worshiping of a (socially defined) glamor as much as it is a commentary on senseless violence.
