I can’t help but notice the word “fascinator” popping up everywhere on the Web lately. I always had them tucked away in my brain, filed under “wedding accessories” but it looks like they’re taking a stab at hitting the mainstream. Kate Middleton sure does like them. And their vintage appeal definitely has a place, but could you ever see yourself donning one of these tiny hats?
Because I mean, let’s be honest. That’s what they are. They have frills and details here and there, but they’re really just pretty hat…things. And in the right context, they’re downright adorable. Here are some cute ones and some decidedly out-there ones, just in case you were in the market for a new fascinator.
ASOS Apple Fascinator Hat, $32.23 from Asos
The model’s face seems to say it all in this photo. You’d have to be one mean fashionista to have the confidence to pull this one off.
ASOS Cat Ears Fascinator Hat, $26.86 from Asos
Animal print goes with everything, apparently even some delicately-placed cat ears. Could you rock these?
Featherweight and Fine Headband, $27.99 from ModCloth
It makes sense that ModCloth would have a selection — albeit selling fast — of delicate and tasteful fascinators. They really do complement a vintage ensemble nicely.
‘Foxy’ Fascinator Headband, $58.00 from Nordstrom
I’m sort of oddly obsessed with this eggs-in-a-nest thing happening on this (overpriced) fascinator.
Couture fascinator by Arturo Rios, $198.00 on Etsy
And of course the best place to look for anything vintage-inspired is the wide world of Etsy. Handmade fascinators can set you back a pretty penny, but if it’s a one-of-a-kind accessory you’re looking for, your chances of finding it on Etsy are high.
So did seeing these get your brain-wheels turning on some inspirational ways to wear fascinators? Or are they a passing craze that should be reserved for royals and brides? Would you ever wear a fascinator?

I am oddly in love with the orange Etsy fascinator!!!!
I wish they were in style and were popular, because they’d be a ton of fun to wear and make.

I just don’t know if I could rock that. I do really like the orange flower one. Perhaps with a vintage-inspired outfit and some pinup girl makeup. Kate looks awesome in them, which is kind of odd considering how everything else she wears is sort of understated. Maybe that’s why they work on here. Plus she’s British, I think that has something to do with it

I couldn’t rock that just alone… sad to say I’d be one of the people waiting for them to be back in style again so I could wear it… maybe I should just do it, reading that over it sounds like I need to take a risk!

i like headbands with fascinators attached. i also prefer the vintage birdcage veil fascinator.

I do. I like them a lot.

kate looks like celine dion in the first row/third pic from the last pic collage.
I like the 2nd row/4th pic fascinator of the girl with the green top/dress.

her name’s not kate middleton anymore..

these used to be everywhere. usually in england or the richer people but they made their stay in wedding stuff. i like the idea of them coming in the mainstream but i’d never be able to to pull it off.

The cat one is too adorable
I can’t imagine waltzing into lecture hall with one of these on. Maybe for a special occasion

i like them a lot.
but i’d look like one hell of an idiot wearing them.

@danaenicole@xanga - I think it is going to be a bit before “Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge” catches on. Even Prince Andrew’s (ex) wife continued to be referred to by her maiden name in the news.

I love them but as a school teacher, I can’t wear them on a daily basis =(

I love fascinators. I haven’t figured out a time to wear the one I bought, though!

I have never heard that word before. Fascinators, but I have seen some of those hat things. And the ones in here seem to be something I would personally only wear on days like Halloween. Where I would dress up. I can see myself being a cat with one of those instead of the basic cat ear headband thing.

I have a couple of these. (:
