I don’t know about you, but this is not my idea of accessorizing.
To each their own, I guess. These living (no really, they move) pieces of jewelry are called Maquech Brooches and basically…they’re live beetles covered in gems. Yeah. I’m not sure if it’s a camera angle thing or not, but those suckers look pretty gosh darn big.
Most artists hand glue these sparkly gems to the beetles and attach a gold chain which can be clipped onto clothing. Or, you know, a finger if you want to be really creepy about it. The brooches are apparently an old tradition that the ancient Mayans used to practice back in the day. Alright, but tradition doesn’t make it any less unsettling, guys!
Now, I’m all about insects. Or like, mostly about them. I’m not gonna say that I like when a stink bug drops onto my bare leg out of nowhere, but I usually don’t lose my mind over it. I was the weird girl at sleep away camp who killed all the bugs in the room. But still, this is one step too far for me. I’ll tolerate bugs, but I don’t want to hang out with them.
Watch this video of the Maquech brooches crawling really slowly over people and imagine that thing ascending your arm while you’re at work or at the bar. One hairy insect leg at a time. (via HuffingtonPost)
Would you accessorize with live animals? What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever worn?

Cue the nightmares! I freak out wen my hair brushes my shoulder wrong, because I think it is a bug.
WHAT IF IT FELL DOWN YOUR SHIRT?!

Um no, just no. I’m okay with bugs just as long as they’re not ON me.

So, when it dies do you peel the gems off and ask for a new one? xD

Oh my god they are SO HUGE! But they are pretty and interesting. If I wasn’t so freaking scared of bugs I might wear one. Maybe a little robot…? But then it wouldn’t be ‘alive,’ so that takes a little something out of it. Are these bugs’ pincers and stuff gone? Can they bite you? Do you have to feed it?

I’m inspired with the surpassing and preachy listing that you furnish in such little timing.
