Do you ever get tired of the same old hairstyle? I know I do…and since braids seem to be a big trend, I decided to try some out.
I found a great article in Cosmopolitan magazine on some amazing braids for summer! Here are a few styles that I love, and are great to try when you want to do something different with your hair.
1. Fishtail Braid
The fishtail braid is, by far, my favorite. It’s difficult to do, and I haven’t completely mastered it. But once you get the hang of the braid, it’s a great way to mix up your hairstyles. Here is a great tutorial I found from E’s Giuliana Rancic, which really helped me:
2. Crowned Braid
Another great braid that I’m seeing everywhere and am dying to try is the crowned braid. I’m sure that you will need assistance with this type of braid, as it sits towards the back of the head. However, if you manage to perfect this look on your own, more power to you!
3. Classic Braid
If the first two styles are too difficult (as they were for me), you can always go with the classic braid. This braid has come a long way since your kindergarten days. It’s easy, it’s chic and great for bad hair days. I love to wear it for work, school or anytime.
4. Casual Braid
I also really like Maria Menouno’s casual braid. I love wearing my hair down, plus this type of style is great for summer, so it may become a staple of mine. You definitely want to give your hair a little tease first and add a few curls at the bottom, as she did, just so it’s not laying flat against your head.
Which braids are your favorites? More importantly: did you master the fishtail??

I love braids of any type. In my “cool years” I used to think braids were for nerds and little girls, but clearly they are still fashionable and functional. I haven’t tried doing the fishtail braid on myself, but it does look pretty yet casual.

I want to learn to do the fishtail braid but I have hardly mastered a french braid… I’m no good with hair.

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - it’s actually pretty easy.. i think it might be easier than a french braid because you start off with 2 sections instead of 3!
i can do french, dutch and fishtail braids.. just not on my own hair lol

I do a pretty good french-fishtail braid on myself… but it’s like a workout for me haha
I always, always, always do a dutch braid with my bangs, because they’re still at that stage in which they’re no longer blunt bangs but they’re still not long enough to be a part of my normal wavy hair.
The waterfall braid is beautiful and that dutch braid that goes around the head and ends at the side is super pretty and easy to do.
The one I just cannot manage to do is the crown braid! I’m so frustrated! >:(
