While some may argue whether a California gurl rapping about how, “I’m supposed to be locked up too,” is asinine or not, putting down Beyoncé afterward certainly is! Check out Perry’s performance and find out more about her diss after the cut!

I think that Perry’s cover is out-of-place, silly and fun…just like her. The song itself is good (though Perry’s version falls short, albeit in an entertaining way), and surely its creators didn’t mean for the piece to be taken too seriously. I also doubt she would have performed it without the original artists’ approval. However, Katy probably shouldn’t have taken a stab at Jay-Z’s wife days after her performance. In an interview where Perry was asked why she hasn’t musically collaborated with Rihanna, she responded:

[Rihanna and I have] collaborated on a lot of things, but just not songs yet. It’s one of those things that’s got so much build up that we have to deliver. I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” not “Beautiful Liar.” But I definitely want to do something that is so iconic. [via Jezebel]

For the record, “Beautiful Liar” is the song Beyoncé collaborated on with Shakira. I’m sensing that Jay-Z won’t have a glowing review for Perry’s cover of his song now!

What do you think of Perry’s version of the song? What about her comments about “Beautiful Liar?”
