With fame comes intense public scrutiny, and tabloids are yet again talking about Adele’s weight (which really doesn’t seem that important in the wake of six Grammys). But the news coming from the gossip mill is a bit surprising: apparently the singer, who has a history of being proud of her curves, is trying to slim down. But is that so bad?
According to The New York Post, the British singer is looking to drop two dress sizes by quitting smoking and working out twice a week with a personal trainer. An unnamed source said that, “She had always been curious about taking up Pilates but until recently there just hadn’t been any time.” When Karl Lagerfeld recently called Adele “a little too fat,” she retorted by stating, “I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that. I don’t want to be some skinny mini with my t**s out. I don’t want people confusing what it is that I’m about.” Will Adele’s fans be upset by her new health decision?
Personally, I’m in the exact same situation as Adele right now. I work 60 hours a week and tell myself I don’t have enough time to work out (I do), plus my lifestyle isn’t always the healthiest (darn you, Modelo and Wheat Thins). I currently wear a size 8, and while I’ve always been confident about my body, treating it better and slimming down to be healthier sounds perfect right now. In fact, I’m scheduled to start meeting with a pilates instructor twice a week next month, just like Adele. I’m not saying a size 8 is gross or unattractive; I just know that if I treated my body better, it would be a bit smaller. I look forward to hitting the pilates mat in April, and I wish Adele the best of luck in her health goals!
What do you think of Adele trying to lose weight? Are you trying to lose weight for health reasons?

Adele is a hypocrite considering her waist was photoshopped and she had her tits out for a magazine cover. Anyway, if she wants to lose weight/exercise/eat healthier, it’s up to her. Who would criticize someone for… exercising?

There is nothing wrong with aiming to improve health. I just hope that’s the reason rather than cruel comments about her weight…

Im having a hard time believing this is true considering how egotistically proud she has been about not being “a stick.” In fact I might say she has a hate towards thinness.

Nothing wrong with being a bit more active. Let a girl hit the gym damn it!!!

@ShimmerBodyCream@xanga - this.

I hate when people confuse “liking who you are” with being complacent. Just because Adele likes her body and doesn’t want to be a stick doesn’t mean she isn’t entitled to live healthier and, by association, lose some weight. I think it’s great that she wants to be healthier. Regardless of how much we love ourselves, don’t we all want to be a little healthier? Live longer? of course.

America; if you don’t do it, you’re WRONG. If you do it, you’re still WRONG.

So, we’re criticising someone for wanting to be healthier? Okay then…

why the fuck does this question exist? why would it be bad???????????????? so annoying

“I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that. I don’t want to be some skinny mini with my t**s out”
psft, the majority of women are not nearly as fat as her, unless you’re counting pregnant women. and there are plenty of pics of her with her tits and ass out http://www.billboard.com/photos/stylus/1652059-adele-vogue-cover-600.jpg

@MissAshley - i don’t know, i’ve always seen it as more like her fighting fire with fire. everyone’s always criticizing her weight so she criticizes the stick thin models people are pressuring her to look like. i’m not saying it’s right, since the cliche does say that two wrongs don’t make a right, but i just don’t think it’s fair to only place judgment on adele when she’s actually being arrogant in response to others’ arrogance.

I hate Adele, LOL.
But to exercise is to be healthy, and that’s a good thing so good for her!

I really don’t care for Adele. She sings beautifully, but I think she’s overrated.
This idea of being “different” than other models and being proud of how her body is, is completely hypocritical. It’s obvious there are some shots that are photoshopped, she’s always covered in full makeup that is obvious – she could at least make it look natural – and on top of that, there are lots of shots that it’s obvious were taken in angles to flatter her and make every aspect of her body slimmer.
As many of you pointed out, she claims she wouldn’t take pictures with her tits out, but she has.
And I hate when those who are overweight criticize those of us who aren’t… being healthy/in shape and a decent weight is not a bad thing and never will be.
Yes, Adele.. lose weight!
guest
No! She represents the average woman! Don’t let her do this. Quick, someone shove a Twinkie in her hand!
Omg are you people really even talking about what someone decides to do with their body/weight/image like what you think even matters?
Way to go, lovelies.

Ugh…I remember when I thought a size 8 was fat…long, long ago : / A distant dream as I was 16 when I ballooned from size 2 to a size 7/8 WAAAAAH Hopefully after my half marathon I can stop eating so much. I think Adele can do whatever she wants. Even if she loses weight I doubt she’s aiming for, like, 98 lbs, so it’s not really going against anything. Maybe she just wants to be healthy. I mean, smoking is pretty unhealthy esp. for a singer

I’m sick of hearing curvy used as a synonym for chubby or even more overweight. It’s not the same thing. I’m also sick of liking who you are being an excuse for complacency.
I don’t think it’s good to be ok with being obese. I mean, I don’t go around teasing obese people or anything, but if you are overweight, or especially if you are obese, it’s definitely a good idea to hit the gym.

@P0RCELA1N_D0LL@xanga - I’ve also gotten sick and noticed a decrease in appetite. but nothing like “I can only eat two carrots before I’m stuffed” haha. Hopefully it helps me remember to keep portions down when I get my appetite back!

as long as she’s not doing it in an unhealthy way I see no problem

@AgainstTheWind1@xanga - To be fair to the topic’s relevance, she is a role model to a lot of girls, and millions of them will see her, whatever she chooses to do.
Regarding the orignal post – I like what a few others have said, that just because Adele likes herself doesn’t mean she can’t want to be a better, healther version of who she is. In fact, liking yourself is one of the best motivations for being healthier. Go Adele!

@Pickwick12@xanga - Granted, but my umbrage is taken at two points. 1) What constitutes a role model these days, and 2) the microscopic lens said role models are viewed under these days.
Even if she is a role model, she’s only a role model, not a text book.

@AgainstTheWind1@xanga - I agree, but she is one of the bestselling singers of all time. I guess the fact that she gets more attention makes sense to me. In a media-saturated age, it’s not possible to separate what someone is famous for (singing, in this case) from who they are in general the way it used to be. That’s just the way it is for people who choose to put themselves out there. I also have to add that Adele herself has commented publicly about her weight many times. If someone as famous as she is decides to do that, it’s going to cause other people to talk about it, too.

I think it is important for overweight people to accept their bodies for what they are and to realize that being overweight doesn’t downgrade you as a person. But none of that means that any given overweight person cannot make changes to their body, diet, and lifestyle. Saying that overweight people should be respected because they are people, doesn’t mean that people cannot get healthier.
Size 8 isn’t overweight for anyone but like a five-year-old. Now, I’m a size 4 but I’m only 5′ feet and really small boned (I wear kids shoes) so I do need to lose some of the belly fat I still have after losing 52 pounds. But that is something relative to your body, not something that is for everyone. Good luck! Getting into shape is always a good idea.

Adele is very beautiful, face and body. But here’s a little truth. She DOES NOT represent the “majority of women”. Majority of women are pretty much medium with boobies, some booty, thighs and yes, love handles. She’s a voluptuous woman, but majority of women? uh no. What she will hear in response to her comment is that she’s a fat girl trying to be proud of it and hate on skinny girls.
I like that she wants to be healthier. I don’t think she should be bulimic to do it or anything, but good for her. There’s nothing wrong with trying to shed some fat and replace it with muscle.
guest
She wants to be healthy, no one should hate. She is overweight, and while I hope she isn’t losing weight just because of the pressure to do so, but I don’t see the harm (quite the opposite) in quitting a terribly unhealthy habit and picking a healthy fitness activity.
guest
Being healthier is never a bad choice. Being scale obsessed is. Really it’s hard to find a celebrity female who doesn’t eventually lose weight. The skinny ones even get skinnier.
I exercise about 4 times a week and track what I eat, but I have a thyroid disorder that renders it just about pointless. Well, if I didn’t do that stuff, I’d be morbidly obese, but to actually lose weight- that would take a miracle. My doctor likes to say that “the conditions for weight loss within healthy parameters are simply not present.” Lovely, right?

what’s wrong with being healthy? and besides, isn’t it best for her to quit smoking regardless of whether or not she will lose weight?

i think adele is beautiful the way she is,but hey if she wants to lose weight thats up to her and shell be beautiful either way.
guest
no matter what, she can’t win
oh wait, forgot she’s more successful than any of us here can ever be.
let the girl do whatever she wants
guest
please don’t lose weight. you look gorgeous. and this is the first time i told anyone NOT to lose wight, but SHE looks amazing. i will do ya’
guest
As long as she’s doing it healthily and she’s doing it for herself, I see no problem with it.
guest
How can someone be criticized for trying to live a healthier lifestyle? Exercise (and quitting smoking) should actually help improve her voice. You go girl!
On photo-shopping: Magazines put out what sells and are primarily focused on a visual image. I’m pretty sure Adele has little/limited input on the final photos. She goes in for the shoot, then a month or so later a magazine is produced.
My 2 cents

@TiredSoVeryTired@xanga - I wonder if this author was from the UK, where a size 8 = a US size 12 I think….
As for Adele wanting to lose weight – two dress sizes is not going to make her skinny – she probably realized like so many of the rest of us that once she hit a certain size/number she no longer felt healthy. She said she doesn’t want to be skinny – but that doesn’t mean she wants to keep gaining weight until she is 500lbs either. I wish her success…

i used to listen to adele about 3 or 4 years ago (never really liked her to be honest, but thats a seperate thing).. she’s already lost a LOT of weight in the last 4 – 5 years. if you look at the cover of “hometown glory,” (the single) you can REALLY see a difference. so, weight loss is nothing new for her..
