You couldn’t get within three feet of my face with a needle that was intended for my brow line.
But it’s a different story for the scores of twenty-something women who are waging war on future wrinkles through countless cosmetic treatments, especially Botox. Really, ladies? With injections at $280 a pop, it’s not exactly the most thrifty way to spend your money when you probably have no tell-tale wrinkles to be found. And even worse, there are these things called Thermage treatments – or a “hot radio frequency treatments”, which sounds like a lot of nothing – that are allegedly the hot ticket in Tinseltown, at a mere $25,000 for a head-to-toe treatment. Good to know someone has that much money to spend.
But sometimes, you can’t really blame women, when you have dermatologists, who may or may not want to make a few buckaroos, advocating for early action — you know, a few thousand dollars of preventative injections, so that in twenty or so odd years, your smile lines might not be as apparent. ABC News tapped the expertise of Dr. Debra Jaliman, who put it like this, “…if you’re in your 20s and you start to see lines coming, then why not do it early and prevent it? And to me it’s just like exercise.” Oh, totally.
I guess what I’m trying to say is this: if you want to get Botox because it will put your mind at ease and boost your confidence, then by all means, if you can afford it, do it. But aging just means you’ve lived, and the lines on your face tell stories of the years you’ve had, good and bad. People should probably revel in those lines a little more than they do.
And you know, while we’re at it, why don’t we just enjoy being young while we’re young, and not worry about getting old until it’s time? Maybe we’d all be a little happier. (via Jezebel)

Would you Lovelies seek cosmetic treatment to reverse aging?

Nope. I mush with dignity.

I’m on the fence about it. I know one should embrace their individual quirks and such, but there is nothing like feeling youthful, right? However, I would actually let myself age (at the very least over 40) a bit before CONSIDERING it. Most of the women featured in the article are so young, they would have most certainly benefited from proper diet and exercise, sun protection and face cream. In my opinion, they started way too young, they are just setting themselves up for a lifetime of cosmetic procedures because they cannot deal with aging gracefully.

I know I will have deep wrinkles like my mother does, from raising my eyebrows so much. And I’m considering Botox now, in my 20s, so that by the time I’m in my 50s I don’t look like I’m 20 years older than I am. It can be preventative, just like putting on sunscreen everyday is preventative. Does it work? Who knows, but I’m willing to try it out!

Eurgh, I hate the idea of plastic surgery unless it’s for like, a disfigurement or something. You’d never catch me getting random things injected into me for no reason, lol.

I do. After having a stroke and series of seizures two years ago, the only sign I ever suffered from those are the day long migraines. Morning to night, every day, every week. Botox hurts like fuck, but it saves me from living in my bed 3 months straight. Thank God for some relief, I have a life now.

I’d try the store-bought items first along with a really healthy lifestyle

@MiriamBeth@xanga - see, that’s a legitimate reason to have it
I have no problems with getting it when it’s a necessity for whatever reason, but just because you don’t want to get wrinkles? Eh, I don’t know :-/

Is that what all these FAT lips are about? One day I’ll see a famous actress in a movie at home, and the next day at the store, I look at a magazine, and whoa, her lips are three times the normal size! It’s gross, doesn’t look good, reminds me of Lisa Rina, who finally found a doctor who took half that crap out of her mouth, and nobody in their twenties ought to be making those kinds of choices. Sheesh. I thought only women my age were doing it to cover up wrinkles, but you’d have to threaten me with a gun before I’d do it.

@Pollypinks@xanga - I don’t understand it either. When did thinner lips become so unattractive?

If you are born with thin lips, I think you are probably gorgeous the way you are. It’s easy to widen your lip liner and lipstick a little if you want, and for those who get botox for health reasons, go for it.
