I’ll admit it: I own a pair of Uggs. They’re just so gosh darn comfortable.
But really, they’re not useful for more than romping around the house in the winter or throwing on to go to the grocery store – they’re kind of unwieldy, clunky and not exactly the sleekest looking footwear.
But fashion blog Refinery29 decided to take on the challenge of transforming the furry Australian boots in chic street wear. The result? Some Ugg-rocking that actually made sense.
Check out the three looks below, partnered with some noteworthy add-ins.
Do you wear Uggs out and about, or do you feel they’re a fashion no-no?

aaahh i dont think i’ll ever like uggs =\

I don’t really get those either. The third one or forth one kind of make sense because they look like their bundled up. In the ones where the uggs are rolled, it looks like they are wearing slippers. If I had a pair I would wear them similarly to you – around the house, and for quick trips.

i don’t think i will ever wear a pair of uggs unless i am pregnant or something…

Uggs make sense when, you know, it’s cold and you are wearing them to protect your feet. You don’t wear mittens and a toque (usually) as fashion statements/accessories in the spring do you? Same goes for winter boots.
guest
Those pictures didn’t make them look any better than when anybody else where’s them. Srsly. There’s nothing I haven’t seen here.

wear uggs casually. like with jeans and a sweater, then maybe you won’t look as weird.
guest
Nope. Still not lovin’ em.

These photos do not sell Uggs well. I’m almost wondering if they were satirical. ><
My friend owns a pair of Uggs that doesn’t have this hideous silhouette, and they look okay.
I own a pair that were gifted to me, and yes, they’re comfy in the winter but goodness, they’re not attractive at all. I avoided wearing them if I could.

I think there are so many boots that would have been better choices with the above outfits. Some of the outfits aren’t too bad but I think they still could have found something much better!
guest
So by “making sense” you really mean “the rest of the outfit looks adorable… and then they threw in some uggs to balance it out so they just look ok”
guest
They only looked good with the last outfit.
guest
I still don’t understand. Please provide another tutorial.

I’m sorry but they’re still an eyesore to me. My eyes instantly trail to the shoes cause they’re so big on literally everyone.

I can’t wait until Uggs go away. It’s one of those pervasive fashions that’s baffling to me, like those random-ass hipster scarves that have cropped up everywhere. Uggs don’t look good with anything, and it’s not like they’re very functional. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like they’re dying out anytime soon :/

I have a cheap pair that I wear around the house and when I take trash out. They’re easy to slip on, but they’re butt ugly.
guest
It’s definitely a ‘fashion no’ for me.
guest
I only like the 3rd and 4th pics. I wear them when it’s cold because keeping your feet warm keeps your body warm. I don’t think they look bad, and I hate being cold!!
guest
It’s not that I don’t like uggs I’m just not willing to spend the money on them. I’d rather get nicer shoes

These girls all look homeless…

I was never a fan of the original ones but I kinda like the new leather ones.

They all just look bad to me…I think maybe I think they look better with just skinny jeans tucked in and a college sweatshirt on top, because that’s how I always saw them during winter.
guest
naw i still don’t like em

I find that a lot of people here in Vancouver dress like the 3rd and 4th photo. It’s like always cold and rainy here, so I guess we have legitimate reasons to dress like that. But, we get voted like one of the worst dressed cities in the world. I think that says something.
guest
No.

@ashleynicole - But they’re crap winter boots. They’re suede, so they get ugly fast. So I don’t get the “they’re winter boots!” argument, because I live in an insanely cold place and if I wore anything suede or suede like it would be ugly as heck in about two days.
Uggs are fugly. There are much more beautiful winter shoes out there that are elegant and don’t make you look like a skinned Yeti. I wear leather fur-lined heeled boots all through winter. Look good, my boots don’t get so dirty in ways one can’t fix, and they flatter me.
guest
Uhm. Yeah. I don’t think I’ll ever EVER be into Uggs =/ No matter how comfy it may be!
guest
First and last, no. The ones inbetween (especially the second), yes.
I don’t own Uggs. They dooo look comfortable though for winter times.
guest
goddamn yummy sweaters… I melt.

No they still don’t make sense. I think the best ones are the 2nd and last one from the gallery, and I can hardly accept them.
guest
FUGGS. You wear them to the grocery? Ew. Don’t wear them out. Or ever…

@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - I don’t care how ugly a winter shoe looks if it keeps you warm. I also don’t own uggs. And I’ve also had suede shoes that I’ve worn in the winter that did not look like crap until they started getting dirty, which just meant that they needed to be cleaned off.
guest
I’ve looked through all those pictures, and my verdict hasn’t changed: they’re fucking ugly and won’t ever look good. Feel free to try to prove me wrong.
Also I feel I should add: I understand why women wear them and that they’re very comfortable, and I don’t judge the people who wear them (in fact some of my closest friends wear them), I just don’t like the shoes.
guest
huh… guess the ugg fever hasn’t arrived there yet..
over here in east asian winter, every girl wears them on the streets.. EVERY girl.
so.. to me, nothing new there.

uggs look better with winter jackets and regular pants then in those pictures ..
guest
They are still ugly.

Uggs can never make sense. Uggs will never look cute. Uggs are not acceptable to wear around your house.
Why would you pay money for horrid, unfashionable shoes made out of dead animals to wear around your house because they’re “comfy?” Buy a pair of slippers to wear around your house if your feet can’t handle not being smothered in fluff.
guest
Nope. Still ugly.
guest
Uggs are always a no. Those pics are included in the no.
guest
still not really into them..
