Ever want to add some temporary color to your hair? Hair chalking is a fun way to add some color streaks to your hair… and all for the price of a soft pastel chalk pack from Michaels ($5). It’s a bit messy, but a lot safer than the spray-on hair color everyone uses for Halloween (which btw, requires ventilation or you will be spitting up pink goo all night!). It also washes right out with a shampoo.
Kandee Johnson made a great YouTube tutorial on how to use hair chalking. It’s filled with practical tips, like wear an old shirt, use gloves, and wet your hair.
There’s more tips here on Kandee’s blog. We’ve heard good things too about Kevin Murphy’s Color.Bug, which sounds like a fancier (and more expensive) version of hair chalking.
Have you ever colored your hair at home before? What about hair chalking: is that something you would (or have) tried?

Ugh, I would but I can’t touch chalk. The feel of it really freaks me out and makes me cringe. Holding chalk makes me feel the same way as most people feel hearing nails on a chalkboard.

This looks really cool and easy, but the messiness of it kind of turns me off. I’m not really interested in getting color all over my shirt and pillowcase, but if makeup artists can find a way to use this without the mess, then I’m totally in.

This reminds me of something my mom showed me when I was little. She worked for Lancome at the time and they had these weird little paper sheets with blush/bronzer on them, and you could rub them on your hair and get temporary highlights from them.
The chalk looks bad on her hair tbh. Maybe its because its so dark, but it just looks like… chalk.
