Excuse me while I gloat. Everyone I know who owns a PC always loves to give me flack about how Macs are the lesser of the two rivaling brands (note: they always start the argument. Self conscious much, PC-ers?). I’ve always maintained — and still do — that they’re just jealous of my sleek, sexy white laptop that’s so easy to carry around, never gets viruses, et cetera, et cetera. But now, I have another thing to hold over their heads: us Mac users got more style. Heck. Yeah.
According to a new study by Bundle, the fashion sense of PC users pales in comparison to that of Mac users. While PC peeps shop at stores like Columbia and Van Heusen, Apple-lovers are bumping elbows at Bloomingdale’s and Hermes. That’s a pretty big gap. I guess I’ll be honest here and say that I don’t shop at any of those stores (except Bloomingdale’s, but that’s usually only to pick out Christmas presents that I force others to buy for me), but that doesn’t mean I won’t use this argument anyway. I take whatever I can get.
The difference in preference could simply be attributed to the fact that Macs are typically more expensive than PCs and thus those who own Macs have more money to spend elsewhere. And that’s not to say that Mac users don’t look for a deal—in fact, they usually scour the sale sections of these more upscale shops, hoping to cut themselves a deal. But, you know, I just like to think it’s not a money thing, but rather an intrinsic sense of superior style. (via HuffingtonPost)
What do you Lovelies use: Mac or PC? Have you had to defend your choice?

I have four computers I use every day, some are macs, some aren’t. I have no time for this petty squabbling crap. A computer is a tool, not a fashion statement.

I got a Mac for school because I wanted to see what the fuss was about after having grown up on PCs. It’s a great machine, incredibly stable, and it does look nice. But the fact remains that for the price of a Mac you can get an infinitely more powerful PC. I’m going to keep it real and say that Macs are computers for people who don’t know how to use computers. The UI is incredibly graphic and simple to invite non-techies into the fold, they severely limit your ability to manage your applications to prevent laymen from doing unintentionally idiotic things, and they manufacture their products to physically limit you from opening them up and fixing them yourself so you have to get them serviced at the Apple store.
Love my Mac, it’s been great to me, but my new desktop is going to be a PC.

Oh my god, you idiotic immature pathetic Apple-genital-sucking hipsters need to be smacked across the mouth. Feeling like an arrogant ____ because you own a certain brand puts you just below teenagers who feel wearing X or Y style of shoe makes them better, in the scale of How Much of a Loser You Are.
I don’t feel the need to make myself look cooler based on the technology I own.

@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - Uhm, I don’t think the point of this post was that she was cool for having a mac…

@emptyabyss@xanga – I know enough of these types of people to believe it to be true, sadly.

@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - What types of people? Do you know this girl? This is so weird.

@emptyabyss@xangathat’s basically what all Mac people implicitly mean though…Just beating around the bush to “I’m better/prettier/cooler/hipper/richer, etc. because I own a Mac” But hey one day when I can afford one I’ll probably be thinking the same thing.
guest
@andysigdelt@xanga - Yeah I’m pretty sure you’re just super judgmental/jealous. How on earth would you know what all people who own macs think of themselves?

I hate this debate. And I agree with the person who said a computer is a tool and not a fashion statement.
I own an iphone and I love it. Not because it’s Apple, but because it helps me do what I want to do better. I also own a pc and happen to like them better, so it’s not that I’ll only use Apple products.
It’s a shame that people are so concerned with brand names anyway. Be happy you have a computer and the money to afford one. There’s a lot of people in the world who can’t afford a computer let alone food and water, etc.
guest
But you are starting the argument this time.
Myself, I don’t really care. I admire Steve Jobs as a business man and I think he had a very innovative way of thinking. My computer’s a Vaio though, I love my iPod and iTunes, my phone is a Motorola, and my e-reader is a Nook. I go with what is going to work for my specific needs and price range.
I guess I don’t understand what the debate is all about. My douchebag brother in law works for Apple; he’s the type of person who made sure to get the white iPhones that are much more expensive and then had his wife ask her family for money for the gas bill. If I were a dumbass, that would be enough to disuade me from ever buying from the store again, but my concerns about a product are- the actual product itself, how much it costs, and how much I’m going to gain from having it.

I’m a PC! And I’ve got styyyyyyle haha

How exactly does this study gauge fashion sense?
MacBook pros (reformatted with some Linux O.S) are pretty popular among some Computer Science majors at my University and I wouldn’t exactly say they’re swaggin’ it out everyday.
On the other hand however it takes a certain amount of ‘i don’t give a fuck how I look’ to pull off the ub3r-nerd look, and that right there is style.

@ask_ashleyyy@xanga - Can I recommend this 100x?
And seriously, this is just ridiculous. How does the price equate to better or lesser style? There are plenty of affordable locations that sell clothing identical to expensive stuff. The title here needs to be changed, because I will assume that the study talks about people spending more money on clothing, not buying more fashionable clothing.
And even so, like already said, correlation doesn’t lead to causation. In fact, I have bought a number of pricey pieces (with my own money) and I have only ever used Windows-based laptops (because, hey, PC = personal computer, i.e. Apple also sells PCs.) A lot of the hardware is the same. For instance, I read that Samsung uses the same type of hardware as Apple. And when I’ve looked up reviews on stores I’ve seen lower ratings for Apples than for Windows. If you are wanting to be a conscientious consumer, look up reviews, understand what specs you want/need, and if needed research where you can buy hardware and software upgrades. You can also use MAC OS on your Windows PCs instead of Windows. Or you can use a different OS entirely on any of your PCs.
guest
I’ve never owned a Mac – firstly, they’re way out of my price range, and for what I’ve seen and experienced, they’re not worth paying twice the price I paid for my Samsung laptop. I do use Apple products – I’ve had an iPod classic for three years now and I recently got an iTouch and I love them both, so it’s not as though I’m anti-apple, I just think their computers are really over-priced for what they can do (compared to Windows, anyway).
guest
Well this excites me seeing as I’m buying a MacBook this weekend and getting rid of my crappy PC.
guest
I have a lot more style than tons of Mac users. And I’m faithful to windows. You’ll never catch me dead with a mac. I’d rather put that money towards my tuition than a laptop.
guest
Pretty sure spending more on clothes doesn’t necessary make one more stylish. Even if there is a relation, it’s that people who can afford Macs can also afford expensive clothes.
guest
@ashleynicole - Agreed.
This is really a stupid, stupid post. Owning a Mac PC or a Windows PC doesn’t has nothing to do with your style. A good portion of people I see at my college using Mac computers dress look like they could be real-life mannequins in an Urban Outfitters store front. (If that is what you call style, I guess they have it, then.) I also know a lot of incredibly talented and smart individuals who rely on custom built Windows computers to run graphic design and music programs. Oh, and they have “style” too, whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean in the context of this post.
Also, there’s way more PC users out there than Mac users, even still today. Of course, with Windows users outnumbering those who use Mac, there’s more likely to be a lot more “un-stylish” people in the group with more people.
Is the OP actually attempting to make a serious point or just writing about this lame study as an excuse to brag about owning a Mac? I still don’t understand why one would be so proud of the brand of PC they own. I did a lot of research and bought a Windows gaming laptop when I had the opportunity to get a Mac Book. I wanted quality performance, not something pretty to sit on my lap and make myself feel more stylish or some shit.
guest
If by “better style” you mean “can afford to shop at certain stores” than probably. Macs are expensive. To say that one has better taste in clothing because they can afford more expensive things is fallacious. There are plenty of clothes featured in Vogue or fashionweek that would NOT be considered trendy or fashionable to wear on the street. It would be considered excessive and unwearable by the average person.
Furthermore “style” doesn’t define “taste.” My style may be to wear a garbage bag under a corset. Style depends on the person, not the quality. This was sort of a trollish post.

More style or more trendy and have more money?

haha i like reading all the angry comments about how they don’t care blah blah blah..
well if they don’t care, they wouldn’t even comment, right?
but some people get offended, annoyed, frustrated.. and then say “who cares!/i use a pc and i got style!/price does not equal fashion sense!”
geez.. relax… i use a mac and i love it.. even if the pcs are better than macs.. (i use pc at work and there really is a difference in terms of stability). That doesn’t mean i am more fashionable.. but even if i am.. really.. who the hell cares..

Psh girl, Mac users are probably equal in style to PC users. Simple as that.
hydrangea / 63 posts
people who tend to love brands such as Hermes and Bloomingdale obviously care about their appearance. Having the coolest, latest gadget is like having the latest runway piece. Once a follower always a follower… I don’t expect those people to even understand why they chose MAC over PC other than the statement that *everyone is doing it*.
guest
Macs are incredibly expensive. Shopping at Bloomingdale’s is incredibly expensive. How does this relate to someone having style? It really, really doesn’t.
guest
I use a few Macs and a few PCs. Mostly Mac, though. Then again, I am a designer so it’s more practical for that specific use. And, I am not style savvy at all. I do shop at Van Heusen and I love it =) Apple offers payment plans so people can afford a more expensive computer without having to pay it all up front. I love my Toshiba and always will, though!
guest
I own a Mac, have no style, no taste, no sense of anything.

As a gamer and a engineer I always stick to a PC. I do not mind macs I like how small the laptops are so there are good for light users, the kind that dont have worry about lag. I also do a lot of computer aided design and the software requires powerful equipment. I also find it is much easier to edit the code on a PC. so macs are good for normal people but in my profession have easier time with their work.
Also pixar uses mac
Nasa uses pc.
Just fun facts

lol how much gvt funding was spent on this life changing study?

oh..
I thought people brought macs because of the operating system

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. Next it’ll be, “People with iPhones have more style than people with Windows phones.” Are you serious?
guest
I own a MacBook Pro and an iPhone (I miss my Android)… and I built my PC myself from the motherboard up… Do I have style? Let’s see…
I don’t shop at ANY of those stores. I buy Gap jeans (because they fit) at the Goodwill store for $7.49 a pair… less if I can get there on the right day. Most of my shirts were bought at Walmart, some at Sears, one or two at TJMaxx, and a few at Charlotte Russe. I also make some of my own clothes… and if I had $20 a pop to spend on t-shirts, I’d buy them from ThinkGeek.com…

@blackspiders@xanga - That is exactly the reason I’m never buying a Mac computer. I am an Industrial Design major and all the programs I need, only work with Windows… so for the money I would spend on a Mac, then having to part it (or however it’s said in English) to have both Mac and Windows softwares, so as to use solely the Windows side… I’d rather just buy an awesome computer with more power (like my Asus) over some Mac. And I think I have better style than many people at my school who own Macs… but that’s subjective, so I cannot confirm it.
guest
@shutterbabyy@twitter - I’d have to disagree, I own a mac and whenever the mac vs PC debate commences, it’s usually when the PC user either comments on my financial situation (i.e. that i’m a snob for having a mac), or how it’s just a “fashion” computer.
It’s unbelievable how many “ooooh you’ve got a mac aren’t you rich” comments i’ve gotten. That’s just what i’ve experienced at least.
guest
Let’s fight about this for awhile.
guest
I have a windows laptop and a mac desktop. Personally, I prefer my mac. I am not rich. We live paycheck to paycheck. My mac was a gift two years ago. *shrug*
sunflower / 323 posts
LMFAOO , really ? the title’s totally wrong, it should be study finds mac users buy clothes at more expensive shops than pc users. and if that was the title, yea it’d make sense, macs are so expensive anyways, they probs go splurge on clothes as well. + also, shopping at more expensive stores does not equal more style. i’ve seen ugly ass clothes at expensive stores before ..
guest
I don’t see how the place of where you shop defines how “stylish” you are, not even in the CONVENTIONAL term of stylish. i see people who shop at thrift stores and whatever have you all the time, that dress better than those who shop at expensive department stores.
yeah, your survey is lame.and i don’t even care if i have a PC or mac, really. as long as it functions and does what i need it to.

@soulfuric - “Macs are computers for people who don’t know how to use computers.” Great comment…I couldn’t have said it better myself.
“Apple upped the ante in 2006 when they launched their “Get a Mac” campaign with actors Justin Long as the cool, casual “Mac” and John Hodgman as the boring, brown-suited “PC.” Everytime this commercial came on TV, I’d think to myself “god can these people be anymore pretentious!” These 2 pieces just show how petty Mac users are.
And just cause you buy an expensive product doesn’t necessarily mean you have more money. The term is n__er rich. How many times has a person received their paycheck an then went out n bought something expensive??? Now does that mean they make a lot of money? No it doesn’t.
“And that’s not to say that Mac users don’t look for a deal—in fact, they
usually scour the sale sections of these more upscale shops, hoping to
cut themselves a deal.” Uh we all do that, regardless of what kind of computer we own.

And another thing, the article Bundle did doesn’t really make sense. Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m not gettin it, but I don’t see how they came to the conclusion they did. This is what they say:
~ Here at Bundle, we use data from billions of anonymous, aggregated
credit card transactions to look for trends in spending patterns. We
analyzed the spending of more than 700,000 PC and Mac buyers, and
confirmed that the stereotypes may be true: Our data indicates that Mac
users are indeed fashionistas.
If they’re really anonymous cc transactions, then how do they know who spends what and where? Do they track the cc number to see where else it’s being used? Exactly what kind of data are they using? Is that even legal? And they supposedly did this with 700,000 buyers?? I’m sorry but something just doesn’t add up here.

Since when does buying overpriced clothes mean you have better taste in clothes?
Does owning a ferrari mean I have better taste in cars? No, it just means I have more money than sense.
guest
In other news, study finds that style is subjective!
Also, many macs are bought because of how they’re marketed, not because of their performance. Ergo, those same people will tend to buy clothes that are marketed well, not based on cost effectiveness.
guest
when i read the title i thought “pffft no shit” B)
