Everyone is always saying you should follow your dreams.
But dreams don’t pay the rent. And following them takes time, energy and effort. And so we often put our dreams aside, and become practical. Pragmatic. Realistic.
That’s why a whole industry exists to inspire you back onto the dream-following path! Check out the gallery below of inspirational posters trying to get you to buy their posters. I mean, to follow your dreams.
Seriously though, following your dreams takes a lot of guts and we are big fans of everyone who still remembers and follows their dreams.
Are you following your dreams?

I actually am. During my life I was the antisocial nerdy type, the one who never got invited to birthday parties and endlessly bullied. Then at university, my hard work paid off and my success hasn’t stopped since. I’m THIS close to my dream job (already in my dream field), traveled the world, won prestigious cutthroat scholarships, etc. Yeah, it came at the cost of partying and smoking weed every day with my friends or like my peers, but unlike them, my future is certain and I’m not desperately clinging to any string of hope of a crappy job or trying to make a worthless degree useful somehow. For all they teased me for working too hard and not “enjoying life”, in the end now I’m the one who can live much more stress free and enjoying my life more than them, now that they realize spending their lives partying and doing drugs was a waste of time. I also have the hot, super smart and loving fiance to boot, and two little finches I consider my children (okay this one is silly but I’ve always wanted finches!).
So I guess I’m trying to say, hey, if you’re one of those people who studies too hard, works too hard and feels like you’re missing out, one day it’ll pay off so much more. Promise.

I have many dreams but I am choosing the one that will give at least decent pay and helps others at the same time. So I decided to go for my dream to work with animals. I’m in the middle of narrowing my options down and what specific job I want to do and how much school it will require. As a kid I wanted to to be an artist, singer etc and I still follow those dreams to an extent but they’re not realistic career choices for me. I’ve always been genuinely interested in animals and I studied them as a child and I can still remember most of the things I taught myself years ago. That is huge for me because with most things I have a terrible time trying to remember what I learned. Plus it’s incredibly important to me to help animals and to educate others on how to take better care of them.

Yes. Finally.
I’ve always wanted to be a fashion writer, so I’ve started my own blog (not at Xanga, though; for some reason it’s hard for me to ”express myself” well on my Xanga), and I’m finishing up my English degree this summer. Then, in the fall, I’m enrolling in a fashion merchandising program, so I can learn about the business side of fashion. And I have an interview for an internship with a fashion website next week, yay.

Yup just dropped out grad school for journalism to pursue writing fiction. It’s a ballsy move but I’ll be happier in the end.

Yes. But it’s worth noting that it’s okay if your dreams change a lot between when you were a kid and when you are a grown up.

As a kid I wanted to be a famous singer, whether it be of pop or broadway. I also wanted to be a teacher. When I got a little older I realized that I could teach music. I’m following that dream.

@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - Amen to that. I’m the same way, I’m 21 and can count on one hand the times I went out to the bar since I’ve turned 21. I’m always too busy, or don’t feel like having a hangover the next day to delay me in any way. I see so many people partying every night and all I can say is “what for?” It seems like such a waste to me; of time and money. I don’t need those things to be happy. Obviously it’s fun to let loose every now and then, but I’ve got plenty of life left ahead of me for fun. I’ve already graduated in one of my dream fields of Photography, and am on my way to another degree in my other dream, Zoology. It is tough, but certainly possible if you put your mind to it. YAY FOR THE DREAMERS!

I’m not sure if I’m following my dreams yet. I know I want to write a book so it helps that I majoring in english. There is just so many different things I’m passionate about so I’m still in the process of figuring out what I want and how to get it

I do my best never to let go of the dreams I have, but I also have to fit in a steady paycheck to the silliness that goes on in my brain. That being said, there’s nothing wrong with balancing responsibilities and making sure you still have your time to play and dream and do and dance and such!!!!!!!! <3
