I’m in the process of planning my wedding, and I have a lot of the big things already taken care of. Now, I’m starting to get to the fun little things, like picking our first dance song. I’m a pretty traditional girl, so I’m thinking about having a classic song. You can’t go wrong with that, right?
Well, I did some researching and found the top 10 classic first dance songs. Click on the links to hear the songs.
2. “As Time Goes By” by Frank Sinatra
3. “Come Rain or Come Shine” by Ray Charles
4. “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion
5. “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” by Elton John
6. “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley
7. “Chances Are” by Johnny Mathis
8. “Close to You” by The Carpenters
9. “Could I Have This Dance?” by Anne Murray
10. “Dream a Little Dream of Me” by The Mamas and The Papas
I think I may have been born in the wrong decade. I just absolutely love these old songs! I have always loved “At Last” by Etta James, and Frank Sinatra just melts my heart. I’m a hopeless romantic, and I’m definitely a fan of old-fashioned love. I know I’m going to be an emotional wreck on my wedding day, but that’s just who I am. My fiance doesn’t care what our song is as long as we get to dance together as husband and wife. I can’t wait for our big day, and I hope it’s absolutely perfect. I just need to find the perfect song for my man and I to dance to!
What do you think about having a classic song for a first dance? Any other songs you think I should consider?

There are a lot of other ones. I feel like “Iris” still has a place.

We considered many of these but ended up dancing to Edwin McCain’s “I Could Not Ask for More” at our wedding. Love the classics, such beautiful songs.

“Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is the song my boyfriend/fiance and I have chosen.

@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - Haha, no, I assure you, we’re dorks. Instead of “here comes the bride” he wants a final fantasy song (starts with a Z, though I don’t remember the name) to play, which I fully agree with after hearing it. But thank you

Look up the song “Toothbrush” by Brad Paisley. It sounds weird, but it is seriously the cutest love song ever.

“The Luckiest” by Ben Folds, or “Penguin” by Christina Perri

I really, really want to play “This Must Be the Place” by Talking Heads.

I used to sing “I wanna grow old with you” to an ex when we dated. It’s from the wedding singer and I’ll always think its the cutest

There was a song that I absolutely loved ( because I had a music box that played it) when I was little. I can’t remember the name, but it was such a sweet song. It was Anne ans Gilbert’s song from Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story.
But if we were going to do a newer song we would use Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz

I’m assuming you guys are east coast cats lol, nothing wrong with that. If you were to ask people from L.A., a song that would be mentioned a lot would be “Always & Forever” – Heatwave or “Here & Now” – Luther Vandross.

we decided not to go with a classic song for our walk into the ceremony, and our first dance.. I liked it much better personalized. We walked down the aisle to Hard to Concentrate by the red hot chili peppers, and danced to lucky by jason mraz. That one was a little overdone but we still enjoyed it

Kiss Me by The Cranberries! Come on! And of course Iris, I’ll Be by Edwin McCain. Can You Feel The Love Tonight is a good one, I’m a nerdy Lion King fan for sure.

My husband and I did something completely non-traditional and came up with a montage of songs and did a dance that went with that song…kind of like the videos you see on youtube titled “surprise first dance” : ] It was a lot of fun and fit our personalities more than the traditional thing!

I don’t want to get married, but I’ve always thought a cover of “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” from Toy Story would make a great first dance song.

@live_for_love@xanga - When I still naively believed my friend and I would some day get married when I was younger, I always imagined that would be our first dance song since we met on a KH message board. It’s a very sweet song.
@goaliegirl3330@xanga - Penguin, yes, I never even thought of that one.

@pick_my_friggin_nose@xanga - Yeahhhhhhhhh! I’ve noticed that there aren’t many bloggers in my neck of the woods. As much as I like cruisin’ to the oldies, I’ve got a soft spot for Lovesongs on the KOST lol. OMG…we forgot Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together”!

What? No votes for ‘Time After Time’ by Cyndi Lauper?

@babybug329@xanga - YES! KOST! I grew up listening to that station because of my mom. It also helps that I have a lot of cousins that were teens in the 80s so that kind of music they would play, I’m so familiar with and love. KOST is a great station to figure out what wedding song a person wants to dance to. lol
