Every now and then, I have days when I’m just feeling blue. I know I’m not the only one who has days like this. There are some things that will always work to cheer me up.
1. Relaxing works 99 percent of the time. Sometimes I just need a little time to myself to do whatever I want. I live a busy life, so a couple minutes or a couple hours that are all mine is very relaxing. In this time I can do whatever I feel like doing, whether that is taking a nap or reading a book. Either way, I’m happier afterwards.
2. Reading a magazine helps me get out of a funky mood. When I read magazines, I feel like I can get away from the real world. I almost feel like I’m living in another world, where I am super glamorous and very rich. I can’t be the only one who feels this way! I especially feel this way when I read Harper’s Bazaar, since I know I can’t afford anything in that magazine.
3. Watching my favorite TV shows on Hulu.com brings me so much happiness. Since I don’t have time to watch my shows during the week and since I don’t have cable or TiVo, I watch almost all of my TV shows on Hulu.com. I love watching shows like Gossip Girl and 90210 because they are so full of drama. My life is pretty drama-free, but I love watching drama unfold. It’s like a guilty pleasure of mine. And of course, I watch comedies. They definitely cheer me up. My favorites are Whitney, Up All Night, Modern Family and New Girl.
4. Cuddling is a sure way to make me happy, on most days. I love to just spend the day in bed (when I have the time) to help me work out my sad feelings. Whether I am cuddling with my blanket or my man, I usually feel much better about whatever has me feeling blue. I also love to light a candle or two when I’m relaxing under the covers. It just brings me more peace.
5. Drinking hot chocolate or a smoothie, depending on the season, really helps me calm down. I’m not sure why, but I guess it has something to do with the idea that comfort foods (or drinks in this case) really do make you feel better.
6. Working out lets me focus on the problem and really think things out. Plus, it helps me stay in shape. Pretty cool, huh?
What do you do to shake a bad mood?

You know what would improve my mood? If my psych paper would write itself. And it’s due tomorrow. Oh procrastination, you are wonderful!

I like to take bubble baths. Or take a nap and try to sleep it off

Food is generally the first port of call. Good music, have a little dance in my room. Good films or tv shows. Talk to friends or family.

taking a nap calms me the best. Or shopping if I have money. An orgasm is nice too. I need to relax tonight after the gym.

My first instinct is to go for a run with some music. It helps me to get away and really enjoy and feel good about myself.
I also like cleaning. It makes me feel productive and yields tangible results that I seriously enjoy. Clean spaces make me feel like I have a clearer mind.
A good video game also always helps, especially with a friend.
Lastly, hanging out with my friends in general. Going out to dinner or hanging out at a friend’s house are my favorites – anything where we can just relax and talk. This is my first go-to if I’m feeling up for it, otherwise I’d probably go through the list as I have laid it out.
I eat a lot as it is and while some food is comforting, it’s surprisingly not what I think of first when it comes to cheering myself up!

listening to music and singing along or dancing like no one else is in the room!

Getting a back rub, or getting out in the sun are the only things that really help me out with kicking a bad mood. If I can’t do those two things, then I either embrace the funk or just try to be alone until it passes.

Usually I’ll write about how I’m feeling. Getting it out on paper so I can physically see it is relieving to me. Or sometimes I’ll just play with my dog, he’s so cute that it’s hard not to smile and feel good afterwards.

Great tips! I also like anything that is funny (like funny youtube stuff) and talking to people.

Oh, and just getting out of the house! Also (if I don’t have baby with me) going for a drive with my music turned up reeeeally loud.

I love listening to music to destress. I love to go on long drives too. And those things together make it a great relaxing time for me.

Without looking at any of the other comments (besides the first one about food…which is a horrible piece of advice…listen to Chris Rock: food is NOT your friend.), the thing that helps me elimate an awful mood, whether it’s due to a bad day, bad experience, or just cramps or anything:
for me, it’s music. YouTube videos. I can usually find a music video to play that succinctly sums up and expresses through sound what it’s like to feel the current pain I’m experiencing.
Music, and pain, binds us all, through shared experiences. And all are unique.

And now that I have read most of the comments, yes, alot of them are extremely excellent, particularly writing in your diary (or Xanga ;] ), cranking up the music loud, driving&getting out of the house (don’t drive when you’re upset though!), angry sex, masturbating, and YOGA!!!! I cannot emphasize how the latter has been one of the greatest stress relievers I’ve ever discovered in the free world!
…Beyond that, just complaining and bitching and vocalizing my mood to a good listener or a friend is the best way I can probably think of – it is so unhealthy to internalize anything you’re feeling.

Eat haha. Hot chocolate and ice cream are a go for me year round…even in July and December (usually hot cocoa in July and ice cream in December.) I like to meditate every now and then or sometimes just cry. Walking helps but sometimes gets me more frustrated depending on why I’m walking. Sometimes I turn music on and sing. If I’m in a REALLY bad mood, I sing very loud and terribly.

Unfortunately eat, but not really – that’s a vicious cycle. In theory I would run, but I never think of it when I’m actually heated. SO. Benzos. JK, eating.

I like the cuddling and the working out. Those help a lot… Hot drinks I guess they help. I often drink warm tea.. wish I did it more often I want to… but it’s just a hassle to wait in the really cold kitchen for water to boil. I light candles once in a while to feel relaxed when I’m laying in bed reading for a bit. ::sigh:: Maybe I’ll cuddle tonight for a bit.. I’m really sad right now… Sadly I’m in school so I can’t do neither of those till I get home at around 10 PM.

Tang and Popov Screwdrivers. Lots of them. And a lot of self-loathing. Then one or two loud angry debates with myself over Austrian foreign policy or the pros and cons of Ryan Seacrest….which I always win, usually after numerous bouts of arguing over who won by violating Robert’s Rules of Order. Sometimes I’ll class it up with a bottle of Everclear and the soundtrack to Mamma Mia!, but most of the time I just pass out.
I seriously swear by this regimen. I feel like a new man every morning after this. Don’t knock it till you try it.

Music, cuddling, and movie marathon!
I love listening to music while I’m taking a shower or a bath, it completely brings my mood up. Cuddling is another good one, even if it’s with my dog or my boy, either works; or I’ll throw in a horror movie and scare the shit out of myself because for some reason it makes me feel good…or alive….or both, haha.

Running, intense house cleaning, and reading! Nothing works better than those three :]
