At first we thought this pink Mace “gun” was ridiculous:
But it’s actually a very effective non lethal weapon, with a LED illumination sight and effective up to 25-30 feet away. It has a built-in canister so you don’t have to reload. There’s no kickback like there would be with a gun, and you can’t kill someone with it so there’s less danger of going to jail for defending yourself. After watching this review of the gun, we’re much less likely to dismiss this pink “gun”.
Do you (or would you) carry a mace gun, or a real one? If you were attacked on the street, what weapons or training would you have on hand to defend yourself?

I have a concealed carry permit and if I thought it necessary, yes I would carry.
Do I carry on a regular basis? Nope, but I go to the range regularly and it sleeps peacefully locked and loaded under my bed.

I carry a pit bull.

I carry mace. My male housemate makes sure I’m supplied with it. I work on campus late at night and he feels better about me being there if he knows that I have something other than my fists to defend myself with. I feel better about it too.

I have a concealed carry permit. I’ve been shooting since I was 8 or so. I’ve been in competitions. So, chances are, if I gotta pull my 45 on you, you’re going down.
I used to carry mace, but it was bulky, and honestly, you have to be seriously careful with where you spray that shit. I don’t know if anyone has actually ever been in the vicinity of when this has been used (I have, and it sucks like all hell), but all that would need to happen for this to fly back in your face is a slight breeze, and then you’d be grounded about a foot from your attacker. It just doesn’t seem that smart to me.
I also carry a maglite, which kind of makes me feel like more of a badass than my gun. XD

I have pepper spray, but I think I’m going to have to get one of these!

As a LVL 80 Warden of Tunare, I always carry a mace.

I’ve been shooting since I was little. Guns aren’t allowed on my campus, though, so I can’t carry. But if I could God help the sorry sucker who tried to attack me. I have a Taser instead, because MACE seems sketchy to me.

Both are illegal in England, as are tasers.

Concealed carry permit + colt .45. I carry when I’m not at work (illegal to carry there). Especially when I’m running errands at night and coming home to a dark house

I carry mace, a knife, and a heavy flashlight. I’m waiting for my paperwork to go through for my concealed carry license, at which point I’ll be carrying this in my purse.
Oh, here’s a couple of good Lovelyish topics: help waitingtoshrug find a suitable purse to carry her gun in. Must have plenty of dividers inside, be big enough for it and the usual other purse things, and easy to draw from. Also- are concealed carry laws sexist, considering that most women can’t successfully conceal their weapon on their body (like a man could do with a belt holster), and therefore must use their purses- making it more difficult to draw quickly and smoothly? Is open carry a good alternative to concealed carry for women?
Let’s discuss.

No, both are illegal where I live. The police here doesn’t even carry guns and needs special permission to use mace.

I am slowly working on the legal aspects of being allowed to carry a gun.
I strongly believe in the right to bare arms.
Currently I carry a knife, which I have actually been trained to use for self protection. I keep it clipped to my pocket usually. I used to keep it in my purse until one day I got spooked by a homeless guy and realized I’d have to say “dude can you hold on a second before you attack me so I can find this knife in the bottom of my purse..” lol.
guest
I carry mace. And my keys between my fingers.

I need to get some mace, seriously. I have an LED maglite and a scary-looking jaggedy knife that folds up in my purse. If I’m walking somewhere alone in the dark, I keep the blade flipped out and my hand at my side or keep the knife up my sleeve just in case. I want to take official training to learn how to use it effectively because I know little about how to actually use a knife properly. I don’t think I would ever carry a gun except in certain places or circumstances.

I’ve been carrying a large knife for 5 years, mostly for work purposes, but I did use it on a person once (in a rape situation). About 15 months ago, I was mugged and my sense of security left me completely. My knife helped me feel secure, but I needed more. Not only did I take a kick-boxing class for 6 months, but I bought a gun. It’s small enough to hide VERY easily, but big enough to harm/kill someone.
I now have a knife AND my gun on me 24/7. Everywhere I go. No one ever knows I have either on me. I am getting my concealed carry this month, which I’ve been dying to do for numerous reasons.
I was raised with guns and believe in the idea that if citizens carry weapons, criminals will think twice about attacking them.

I always walk with my keys locked between my fingers if I’m in a situation that is moderately worrisome. I’ve taken some self-defense courses, but ideally my first response would be to stick my fingers in their eyes and then knee them as hard as I can and run. I’m honestly never alone though, and when I am it’s not typically in a situation/place where I feel at all concerned with such things. Good to be prepared though.

I’m kind of alarmed by the amount of people who believe solely in defense by weapons.
Mace is alright. The end of the day, it’s making it as easy and quickly to operate as possible. It’s not about it looking cute, or flashy. It’s a weapon at the end of the day too, and only people who intend to use it as defense should be using it.
I sound like a broken record, but violence breed violence. The more dangerous the weapon you have, the more likely you will be put in a more dangerous situation.
Self defense is a first. Couple that with mace if you are not confident, then you have a strong team.
Holding keys, switch blades, etc, all just give a sense of security…it’s up in the air when the situation calls for action however.
If you are not trained mentally how to react in a situation, it doesn’t matter if you have Jebus himself at your side.
You best defense is having a plan. How would you get out of the situation? That’s what makes or breaks what happens.

I carry nothing because my “shall-issue” state hates guns and you’d have better luck finding a leprechaun than you would in getting your local county sheriff to issue you a CCW permit. I could carry a knife, but I don’t know how to properly fight with a knife, and carrying something you don’t how to use is worse than not carrying anything at all.
As far as my home goes, I’m not worried. There’s a pump-action .12 gauge next to my bed and several boxes of .00 buckshot within easy reach.
And my plan is simple; if you try and break into my home, you get one verbal warning, which you ignore at your own peril. Have a weapon of any kind, you’re going to get shot right away. I’ve done practice “dry runs” in my house and I’ve familiarized myself with both the likely points of entry as well as the spots in my home that provide the best enfilade and defilade.

I would carry mace, but not one shaped like a gun, because it’s illegal in a lot of places to use anything that resembles a gun as a weapon, and sometimes even to carry it. Also, someone could think you are about to use a gun and it could escalate violence, so the whole mace in a gun container is actually an incredibly stupid idea.

Considering where I currently live (North Philadelphia), you’d think so. But I just don’t leave me apartment after a certain time or stay out past a certain time unless I have a ride straight to the door. The walk to and from my apartment from the subway actually isn’t too bad until I get a block within my apartment.
@Xbeautifully_broken_downX@xanga - haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one who considers her maglite a weapon.
guest
@Digital_Angel21@xanga - Nope! Not at all. I love that thing! My husband tries to take it from me, but I just keep telling him to buy his own. XD

I think everyone should watch Bowling for Columbine…whether you agree with it or not (and there are certain facts presented that are misleading…but not about the main point) it presents a very interesting view on why we even feel the need to carry weapons regularly or keep weapons ‘locked and loaded’ under our beds.
guest
@lorelei@xanga - that is exactly what i do, and personally i think it’s a lot more effective than carrying random weapons around.

I have a pink pepper spray thingy. Never had to use it, though, and hopefully I never will be in that position.

Puleezz. I grew up in Central Texas. You know I have a shotgun in the trunk of my car, a rifle under my bed, and a revolver in purse. <-no, that’s just my sister.
I don’t carry anything. I live in a really safe area so if I go into the city I take my boyfriend or my brother with me.
guest
I’m pretty sure mace is illegal here… But I do want to get some pepper spray. Right now I just have my training in combatives. I’m not amazing, but I know how to take someone down and do some harm, and I don’t cower when someone punches me in the face. I can also shoot a rifle fairly well, but sadly, that wouldn’t do me a lot of good in day to day settings. Next week, however, I’ll get to actually shoot a 9 mm pistol. Oh, and I could probably outrun most attackers
But that won’t do me a lot of good if I don’t know they’re there!

I have a pocket taser that I carry with me whenever I go out. It stays in the outside pocket of my purse or in my bra on those nights at the club. I have pepper spray in my purse as a back up in case the taser doesn’t work. I also keep one in my glove box.
I have a conceal carry permit and would/have carried concealed when I was in the city and in a bad part of town. Otherwise, it’ll stay in the car with a clip in my purse or something like that. Call me paranoid, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I also keep emergency stuff in my car like water, crackers and blankets….I keep a small EMT bag as well since I’m an EMT as well as a medical student. Be prepared….like a Girl Scout!
While I carry a lot of protection, I don’t believe everyone should. It’s way too easy to get these types of self protective weapons now without any training. Definitely make sure you’ve been through the training for anything you decide to carry! I’ve been sprayed with pepper spray….I’ve worked a taser and felt what it feels like. I’ve gone through training classes and hundreds of hours at a range with all my guns…if you can’t control the weapon, it’ll just hurt more than help!

Back in my hometown I ran around with kids who were obsessed with knives
and lighters. So I always have both on me. I normally leave my knife
hiding at the bottom of my purse, but if for some reason I feel
threatened or just super paranoid that something could happen, I’ll pull
it out and carry it in my hand. I generally avoid “bad” areas when at
all possible. If I do go into “bad” areas, I go during daylight hours
and never alone. Hopefully, soon I will get training in self defense and
guns!
guest
I do carry some pepper spray just in case, but luckily I’ve never had to use it.

I believe in self-defense weapons, but I don’t like guns that much though, just my personal opinion… I don’t like these because they kinda LOOK like guns, and come in black too (the only color I would buy, or maybe red) but real guns too come in like, raspberry color or that baby pink color to appeal to “feminine” women. I feel like if I pulled this mace gun on a creeper, he might think it’s a real gun, and he’d pull his real gun on me. I’ve literally seen REAL guns that small in similar colors. I wouldn’t want to get shot for real over a misunderstanding… I should invest in some “standard” mace though, $20 could prevent serious harm to me someday, probably a good deal…

I’m about a month away from my concealed carry permit, and I will carry where it’s legal in Georgia when I feel the need, and when crossing state lines for travel, especially when I’m alone. My husband has been carrying nearly his whole life. As it is now, we each have a pistol in a safe on each of our nightstands that are quickly accessed by our thumb prints (since we have a toddler in the house).
None of our guns will ever be pink though!

If I was attacked on the street.. I’d use SING lol from Miss Congeniality xD ahahah

CCW all the way

is there a difference between mace and pepper spray? and where can i get it?! i’ve been trying to purchase it but i’m not sure where to purchase it…

I used to have a S&W LadySmith 9mm. Fit perfectly in my hand and it was with me nearly always…until I met my now husband. He doesn’t like guns, so I had to get rid of it. I still carry a knife with me at all times, but that’s normally for opening things…
