Since we spend a third of our lives in our beds, we should try to make them as pretty as possible. Here are 13 affordable and easy ways to upgrade your bed!
1. DIY a headboard.
This beautiful DIY tufted headboard by Jenny Komenda is a little more involved, but creating a simple rectangular fabric-covered headboard only involves a piece of wood, foam batting, your choice of fabric, and a staple gun.
2. Paint a headboard
3. Add colorful pillows
4. Add a bright, bold, or patterned blanket

(hgtv)
5. Hang fabric, a quilt, a rug, or a curtain as a headboard.
6. Use a painting as a headboard.

7. Create a headboard using wallpaper.
8. Create a headboard using chalkboard paint.
9. Apply an affordable and super easy headboard decal.
Blik offers many different styles and colors than the wrought iron style below.

10. Use framed pictures as a headboard.

11. Recycle old shutters and use them as headboards to give your room a coastal feel.
12. Hang a canopy with an embroidery hoop and a pair of curtains.
13. Hang a large map as a headboard.
Which one is your favorite? What does your bed look like?

My bed is on the floor with a headboard. LOL Buying a frame is cheaper than a mattress, especially if it’s used. Since like 99% of them all use the same type of parts, it wont be hard to find or even make up your own things. I love these ideas though.
I would also suggest a duvet, new sheets, shams. Again, all cheaper & a nice way to change the look of a room without spending too much.

you should change the title to “affordable and easy ways to make your own headboard”

@stalking_hobo_x3@xanga - 3, 4, and 12 are unrelated to headboards, and some of the others involve hanging something rather than making a headboard.

@stalking_hobo_x3@xanga - Haha yes, a lot of these do seem like creative headboard ideas. I liked them though! Still pretty good, eh?

Akkkkk I love all of these! I have a twin sized bed I sleep on the the headboard is soooo old. I’m too cheap to buy a new one. I’ve tried putting a blanket over the old headboard but that didn’t work to my pleaseing. I just drew on the walk in chalk. But I like a lot of these ideas! Where can I find some chalkboard paint?
I think I like the wallpaper and decal best. But the decals I want cost around 50 bucks.

I bought these huge peony flower wall decals and stuck them on my wall as my “headboard” so it looks like flowers are growing out of the head of my bed. It’s super cute, but I’m hoping to buy a frame, or something to set my bed on so I can get the mattress off the floor now that I have some tax money. I’m super excited to not have a mattress on the floor. I’ll probably hang something else behind my bed once I get the frame.

I love the canopy and map ideas! Whenever I get my own place I might do one or both of those

@looloo11268@xanga - I don’t know if you were referring to a HB, FB, and rails or a metal frame, but a good metal frame is only about 40 bucks. Just make sure it has a center support to protect your foundation/mattress

I’m actually thinking of making my own bunkbeds when my kid gets old enough, working in the furniture industry for 7 years has taught me a lot.

i so wish i could have curtains, but we aren’t allowed in the dorms, nothing is to be hung from the ceilings.
maybe i’ll make myself curtains for my bed at home.

Some of these are really cute! Our bed is amazing. It was custom made by an Amish workshop. It’ll outlast us.

love your style, ahh!
this is why I follow you on xanga AND pinterest!! <3
I like them all, except 2 of them. the painted headboard just doesn’t look right. and what happens when you want to rearrange? its not removable!
and the one with the canopy just looks impractical to sleep in… haha I like canopies but I feel like I’d get tangled up in that one!

@raspberryjade@xanga - what’s her pinterest name? I’d love to follow her!

I totally love these ideas, but what if you’re sharing a bed with a boy?
I just bought us some SWEET sheets, though—reversible between chocolate brown and 1960s-ish waves.
