People can get creative on Valentine’s Day to show their appreciation to a special someone. I can understand that. But what I can’t understand is how does this guy have the gall to marry a little girl with terminal cancer? Spending the day with someone that admires you can make that person extremely happy… but marry them? The little girl got a consent from her parents and everything to allow the marriage between her and the young celebrity. (The news didn’t mention the little girl’s name nor her age, or I didn’t hear them say it at least.) (Ed’s note: her name is Avalanna Routh and she’s six years old.)
What does this mean? Is marriage becoming a circus? A frantic publicity stunt?
First of all, by knowing this I can say one thing for certain… the meaning of a marriage has lost its value. Something that should be serious and sacred should actually… well, be SERIOUS! I think that what he’s done is cruel because he’s practically saying “I have no problem marrying a total stranger who’s dying because in the end they’ll die and I can get more fame for doing an ‘act of love’.” What ever happened to marrying for love?
This is by far the must revolting publicity stunt any celebrity could ever do. Why not just spend three days with the girl and take her to where ever she wants to go and share your time with her; I think that’s more reasonable. But by marrying her, this is just sending a huge negative message: “Marriage is just a word and has no meaning”. Frankly, he’s toying with the little girl’s emotions.
I’m all for making people and children happy. But I don’t agree with playing them like this. And I know that there will be a great number of Bieber fans that will read this post and insult me by commenting things that are just for the sake of defending their “idol”, but that’s freedom of speech I suppose and I think that everyone is free to just say what they want and what they mean even if it doesn’t make any sense. But before you comment, think about it: ”He just married a little girl that will die soon… usually one would think twice before getting married to anyone especially if there’s no love involved. And yet here comes this celebrity and actually marries a little girl with no problem at all because in the end he’ll end up being a widow.”
Ladies and gentlemen, this is mocking a sacred bond between two humans that actually love each other and are willing to spend the rest of their lives together and face any situation, together. In sickness and in health.
Enough said… what do you think? Do you agree with what he’s done? Should marriage be taken more seriously?
Lovelyish says: We can’t tell if you’re being serious. You realize that they didn’t actually get married right? She’s dying of a rare form of brain cancer, and Bieber was there to cheer her up and raise awareness to find a cure.

Um…. I’m with Lovelyish on this one, I’m totally confused. Especially since, you know, I’m pretty sure 6 year olds can’t legally wed. If marriage was actually mentioned, it was probably like… play marriage. You know, like when a 1st grader is all “yeah he’s my boyfriend,” obviously that’s not the case.

I’m guessing they deleted the old post because tons of people were having a shit-fest over the OP?

This was on Datingish as well….

WHY IS THIS BEING POSTED?! It’s stupid. They were pretend married NOT actually legally married.
I’m severely disappointed in the editors of both Datingish and Lovelyish for deciding this was worth posting.

it could go both ways, and i understand where you’re coming from. but i mean when you really think about it, he wouldn’t be the first to take away the meaning of marriage. look at all the other people nowadays who just openly get married thinking they’re in love but then years later (if they make it) end in divorce over no sense when there are really people who are stickin’ it out through abuse. it’s really scary to think that barely anyone “makes it” till death do them part

It wasn’t a real, legal marriage…I think it’s kind of sweet. He just wanted to make her happy. She’s a little girl. If she wants to say she’s married to Justin Bieber, why does it matter?
