Valentine’s Day: the holiday dedicated to making yourself feel guilty. Or co-dependent. Or one of the two. I’m kind of a sucker for Valentine’s Day, but as a cynic (a major cynic), I’m definitely able to see its flaws. That being said, any day where it becomes more socially acceptable for me to dress as girly as possible is a winner in my book.
When it comes to Valentine’s Day style, I think the important thing is to keep it simple. As I’ve written before, it’s really easy to go overboard on a day where little heart print everything is available. For my own day, I decided to keep things simple with one of my favorite dresses from Forever 21 — it is a nude-pink color, is three-quarter sleeved, and has a beautiful lace print. I bought it for myself for my birthday and I’ve loved it ever since. A lot of my dresses are very short (I’ll admit it) and I actually love this one because it’s not — it’s long enough to stay comfortable and not worry that I’ll be flashing my underwear to anyone!
I paired it with a red scarf and a bomber jacket I received from my sister for Christmas. I love this bomber jacket for two reasons: it’s warm, and it adds a little bit of toughness to every outfit. I love my lace dresses, but alone they can start to look a little too sickly sweet or too childish. Adding a piece that’s very different — like my bomber jacket — pulls it away from being just a little too romantic.
