Ever since I decided to marry my boyfriend, I go through these phases where I am obsessed with engagement rings. At first, I wanted the traditional round cut solitaire (above).
Then I wanted something with accents so the entire ring would sparkle:
But then I became interested in rings with halos:
A few days ago, Dusty got the Zales catalogue in the mail and I started looking at the Vera Wang Love collection, which features diamond rings with sapphire accents. I immediately fell in love with her timeless, yet contemporary designs. Here are some of my favorites:
1. 1 carat T.W. split shank engagement ring in 14K white gold (3/8 carat main diamond):
2. 1.5 carat T.W. cushion cut diamond frame bridal set in 14K white gold (1/2 carat main diamond):
3. 1 carat T.W. diamond frame engagement ring in 14K white gold (1/2 carat main diamond):
All of these have a sapphire in the side, which makes them a little more unique that the traditional diamond-only engagement rings, but I like that they are not visible from the top (kind of like a secret!):
After taking Dusty to Zales, I decided that I absolutely adored the last one (though #2 is a close second)! It actually sits flatter than the other ones so it won’t get caught on things as easily. I really like the twists in the band and it actually goes really well with this wedding band:
Lovelies, what are your favorite engagement ring styles? Do you like my engagement ring choice or would you stick with something simpler?

I think it’s too much. I prefer something much more simple. I do like the idea of the hidden sapphire though.

I am having the same problem. My ring finger is a size 4.5 so the solitaire probably looks best. Then again, I do love the pave setting.
Those little sapphires are cute.

I love, love, love the second one! Don’t think I could ever pull off wearing something that beautiful without freaking out that I would lose it everyday though! Ha! I love your choice though! Would love it see a pic of you wearing it
Congrats!

Too each their own, but all but a solitaire would be too much for me. Congratulations.

I have no business looking at engagement rings since I’m already married but last month I went to have my rings cleaned (regular scheduled) at Zales and like always, the salespeople are forever asking me to “upgrade” my ring. I have no intentions (or the cash) to do so, but I try on a couple for my entertainment. I tried on this set, the salesperson said, “Oh, it’s just $5,000″ like it’s chump change. The Vera Wang rings are beautiful, but I love my ring and wouldn’t trade it in for another. As for looks, I like simple rings, like solitaires, or 3 stones on a clean band. The halo setting is just a bit too much for my liking but I’ve seen ladies with very lovely halo rings. I also do like rings with the small stones on the band, but coupled with a halo setting, it’s too much for me.

I would really just be so happy that someone loved me so much they wanted to be with me for the rest of their life that I wouldn’t give a fuck about a ring. That, and it’s weird to me when girls are obsessing over what ring with which they want their future husband to “surprise” them. It kills the point, for me. I mean, I’d rather the ring choice be made by him, something he personally thought I’d like. That, and I already have an expensive ring that I wear every day. I couldn’t possibly reason with myself that it’d make sense for someone to drop all that money on something so small and, in the long run, meaningless.

I love the one you chose! The accent/halo combo is a bit much for me, but the twist in the band is gorgeous, and I love the hidden sapphire!

I like the simple one, although the hidden sapphire is really gorgeous.

I LOVE Vera Wang, dont get me wrong but her jewelry line kinda pisses me off. These designs look like many other engagement rings (& they are nice!) but because Vera’s attached to it, the price is like quadrupled. And trust me, I was looking when I heard since my fiance (then boyfriend) said I could pick my ring but then I saw the designs & prices. It’s pretty but a pass for me.
I ended up getting this: http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10867938&kpc=1 I wanted a 3 stone ring & I LOVE cushion cut stones so this was a win. Especially since I LOVE amethysts! The cost of a ring shouldnt reflect the love a guy has for his girl. I had a decent limit but I looked at what I would love & not the price tags. When I saw the bargain though, I was blown away. The pics dont do this ring justice. It’s just the right size. Not too big or too small.
I think too much focus is on diamonds. Because they’re always in demand, the price of engagement rings is astronomical. I always advise people to look at other stones or diamond simulants, especially if a company cant verify the have clean/conflict free diamonds. Or if you absolutely must have a rock, buy the setting & stone separately. The setting is cheap, the diamond(s) cost the most money. I looked for over a month before picking my ring.
@babybug329@xanga - Zales is my store too! They didnt offer you a trade in for the rings you currently have? Usually they buy your ring(s) & put the money from that towards what you want to get. Maybe each store is different…

Halos are really pretty, but I think I would like a solitare princess cut with gems on the side of the band.
Also… you should let your S.O. know these preferences when you have both decided you want to get married. If you just have it in your head that “it’s time to get engaged!” he might not have that yet, and you’re setting yourself up for a huge letdown. Just make sure you’re on the same page before you go squealing about a ring. You don’t want a fight over this sort of thing. Believe me.

i find it so weird for women to obsess over something as meaningless as a ring. personally, i want something vintage, with a lot of history.

@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - Yes, they offered to put the cost of my current rings towards another, but I am not interested since I love the engagement/wedding rings I have. Those salespeople are really determined, though. Your ring is pretty, and it’s a nice price, too. I love seeing unique rings as engagement/wedding rings. But, every woman has different taste and some women love a big honking diamond.

I love the halo one.
God knows when I’m going to get married.
Must get through school first. BLAST lmao.

@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - LOVE that ring. I’m a huge fan of amethyst also, but felt a solitaire with amethyst instead of a diamond wouldn’t be very…engagement ring-like. If I ever find the special someone who wants to “put a ring on it” not just figuratively, but literally, I’d love something similar. I’ve never been huge on diamonds, since they are kinda a scam.

LOVE THE FIRST TWO YOU CHOSE!! Ughhh i’m drooling over the gorgeousness of those rings. Great picks

@babybug329@xanga - HAHA!!!! I love you! “Big honking diamond!” XD!!! I usually call those a signal light because you can shine a flashlight on it & call a ship to port! It depends on the store too. The one by my house I’ve been going to for years so we’re friends with the sales girls. They give us heads up on sales & a discount when we go to them so I adore them.
@Digital_Angel21@xanga - I dont think diamonds are a scam, just the companies. Once I found out what goes on in the jewelry industry, it changed my view on diamonds. I love them but I do more homework before I buy anything with a diamond in it, even if it’s a chip!
Colored solitaire rings are nothing new though so keep it in mind!
Infact, colored gems are the new diamond solitaires! I’ve seen some gorgeous rings with quartz stones, simulants & other things. here are some good links for you:

@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - I guess so! There is also an outlet store near me so sometimes I go there to have my rings cleaned but they aren’t too interested in chitchat. The last time I was near ships and a port…I found myself at the Queen Mary…the hubby and I quickly booked it! (We got kind of lost, it was before the days GPS was popular.) I’ve never heard of them referred to as a signal light, I learn something new every day
@Digital_Angel21@xanga - I love the idea of colored gemstone solitaire engagement rings! I’ve seen cocktail rings with topaz, amethyst or aquamarine, they looks so pretty.

too many diamonds! o_o
I like the ones that have a big one in the middle, and the tapered side stones. or simply the three stones. I feel like that’s adequate bling without being too in your face, but that’s just me!
guest
Oh so pretty! I love the hidden sapphire. Like, drool. A little too much for my taste in rings personally but still very pretty

If I were getting engaged/married, all I’d really want is a good husband/partner.

I fell in love with the second ring on here. Could you possibly tell me where it is from? I’m not having any luck when I search for it. Thank you!
