Sporting a big bottom? Well now you can be especially proud to display your curvy behind, because researchers have found that it is good for you!

As an avid fan of Queen’s anthem “Fat Bottomed Girls”, and a possessor of my own personal fat bottom, I could not be happier to find that my big bottom is actually good for me! Scientists from Oxford University claim bottom fat helps protect against hardening arteries. The study, published in International Journal of Obesity, reveals that storing fat in your bottom, rather than around your tummy, cuts the levels of bad LDL cholesterol and raises the good HDL cholesterol which prevents health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Professor Jimmy Bell, head of metabolic and molecular imaging at Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust, explains that there are good and bad fats—the fat in our bottoms breaks down slower than belly fat, producing less harmful chemicals within our bodies. The slower burning bottom fat also makes more of the hormone adiponectin which protects the arteries and promotes better blood sugar control and fat burning.

To celebrate this new revelation, sing Queen’s anthem loud and proud!

Will this study make you love your fat bottom more?
