It’s always interesting to see what celebrities (and their stylists) come up with on a night like the Grammys. Just take Cyndi Lauper here for instance. Yay? Nay? The Grammys are understood to be a less formal evening, the opportunity for the red carpet walkers to be a little more adventurous and have some fun. This year’s Grammy guests took that freedom and ran with it, some in a good direction and others not as much. Take a look

I love the dynamic of the Grammy’s. It’s more relaxed than the Oscars and other movie awards, but not hardly the parade of shock and ridiculousness the MTV Video Music Awards can be. On one hand I love seeing grinning and sufficiently well-dressed Rebecca Black on the red carpet. It’s like her face is saying, “I’m a musician, like, in real life!” To which we can only reply, “Wow, the Internet is a truly magnificent machine.” And on that same red carpet Fergie feels the occasion warrants a Halloween-style view of her skivvies. But some stars hit the mark in a lot of ways. For example:

Have you seen Adele? The woman is a vision of class and confidence. Karl Lagerfeld, eat your heart out.

Corinne Bailey Rae really nailed the spirit of the Grammys in this class-meets-sass look, styled in a tastefully fun way head-to-toe.

Some missed the mark, unfortunately. We already mentioned Fergie’s little slice of crazy, so here’s that:

Like, with a collar and puff sleeves, no less?! It looks like a shirt off the rack at Penney’s circa 2001, but you know, with a skirt attached. So confused, Fergie.

I’m not even going to pretend I think this is cute, Snooki. I mean, everyone expects you to do something tasteless — why not try surprising us?

There are a ton of other amazing looks (seriously, Kathy Griffin? She looks incredible) so scroll through and take a look. Then tell us what your favorite looks were from the big evening!
