Kirsten Dunst’s character in Elizabethtown. Natalie Portman’s character in Garden State. Zooey Deschanel’s character in (500) Days of Summer. We all know them, the Manic Pixie Dream Girls, and most viewers either love them, hate them or both. But what happens to these quirky characters after their cinematic stories end? Discover the hilarious answer after the cut!
I will admit that I enjoy my fair share of MPDG movies. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was brilliant, but Kate Winslet’s character definitely falls into the category. However, after getting a bit exhausted with their quirky sweetness, this video was a refreshing view.
What did you think of the video? Can you think of other Manic Pixie Dream Girls?

Women complain about this stereotype and completely ignore the opposite but equally shallow character: The White Knight, which is extremely prevalent and equally unrealistic.

@thiscrazyworld@xanga - Agreed. White Knights are so damn boring after awhile. And then people call you a bad person for getting sick of them.

@thiscrazyworld@xanga - But at least they’re seen as strong and whatever. MPDG’s literally have no life outside the man, and spend usually a lot of the movie doing the man chasing.
This is why I so strongly am tired of Zoey Deschanel. She keeps perpetuating this retarded and offensive stereotype to no end.

this is actually hilarious.

I was once informed that I meet the criteria to be a MPDG. Good ol’ Asperger’s. That said, that jolly rancher game looked awesome and playing in the rain is fun when it’s a sun shower.

I usually find the characters cute-ish. Though in real life I would want to smack them. I think I have a couple friends who are borderline like those girls…and I often times do want to smack them heh.

I guess I could be classified as this, but I don’t try to be. There are a lot of girls who like this and put it on everyday when they get dressed, but there are also people who are just naturally quirky and somewhat charming. That was something they presented in the last episode of new girl, where zooey’s character is attacked by another female chara. for ‘doing a thing’. I definitely find though that when I’m single a lot of guys become obsessed with me. I think they are just putting the ‘cute/weird/artsy’ girl on a pedestal.

LOL…that was really funny. Although I’m still not entirely sure what, exactly, a MPDG is. I mean, I’m kind of weird and like to color and listen to strange music and have pink hair and tattoos…but I hope people don’t see me like THAT. I would never dance in the rain though because I hate getting wet unless I’m in the shower or at the pool. Yuck.

I’ve always heard that Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine is supposed to be the antithesis of the mpdg… that said, this was hilarious and spot on. Actually I don’t think I ever totally understood what mpdg meant before i watched this.

Haha, that video was hilarious. I HATE that character in every movie and I never realized that there was a name for them. Another example: the female love interest in the movie “Arthur” (the old version and the recent one with Russel Brand.)
I have to agree with @ThingsYouDontKnowAboutMe@xanga about Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine, she didn’t seem like a shallow passive character as much as these other examples.

I love playing in the rain. And I guess I love MPDGs and I didn’t even know what they were 30 seconds ago.

@MoonFaeEyryan@xanga - How is it offensive? I don’t even really see it as a stereotype but that is mostly because I don’t see it as offensive. There are some people that are just naturally like that as far as their personality goes. But seriously I’m confused as to how it could be offensive. Plus, even if it were a stereotype, I don’t see how Zooey Deschanel is perpetuating it. In 500 Days of Summer she was definitely NOT chasing a man. If anything she kept telling him, “this isn’t serious” “this will never be serious” “i don’t want that type of relationship with you”.
