As 2012 gets underway, new styles, colors and patterns are stepping forward and becoming the hottest trends of the upcoming seasons.

Stay trendy and stylish by looking out for these 5 fearless essentials that are the must-have trends of this year.

1. Tangerine Tango

It’s no surprise radiant red and orange colors are popping up on the runways after “Tangerine Tango” was named the top color of 2012 by the Pantone Color Institute.  The color brings energy and works great as a main piece in any outfit.  If you’re like me and tangerine doesn’t work well with your hair or skin tone, try using tangerine accents like these Sperry Top-Sider’s!

2. Nautical Stripes

Stripes are swimming their way back into style and are a staple for any wardrobe.  They can be anything from preppy and modern to sporty and chic.  The versatility of this look makes stripes my favorite trend of 2012!  I’ll be working stripes into my wardrobe by pairing neutral striped tops, skirts, and dresses with colorful cardigans.

3. Colorful Hues

Tangerine won’t be the only colorful addition to 2012.  This year all colors are in style, from vibrant and bright shades to pastels.  If you’re nervous about having a bright wardrobe, check out smaller accessories or lighter pastel options like these jeans.  I personally love mixing and matching bright colors like this pink and orange color block tank!

4. Military Chic

It’s back!  The military look that became popular in 2011 is continuing into the New Year with fabulous shoes, belts, bags, and more.  With options like these, it’s easy to work the military trend into any style or look.

5. Bold Patterns

2012 started with a bang that won’t be fading anytime soon.  Busy patterns like these are a fun addition to all styles this year.  Just be careful to avoid mixing too many patterns and making your outfit overly busy.  I’d suggest picking one pattern piece and pairing it with something simple and plain.
