Recently I posted about 5 things I learned living with boys and received a lot of comments regarding the inevitable situation of hair clogging the drain. A number of Lovelies weighed in with their opinions. The consensus was that it is disgusting. I never thought hair-filled drains could be considered so gross! I was surprised and humored at many of the comments below!
I always remove my hair from the drain. I remember getting yelled at by my dad for leaving it in the bathroom. “I’M BALD! ITS NOT MY HAIR I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO CLEAN IT OUT!” althought my fiance and our roomies (another couple) never clean out their hair from the drain, and I know it’s not mine because everyone else’s hair is black and mine is light brown -_-

I have such a serious problem with pulling hair out of the drain that I’m considering cutting it again. It’s only now gotten long enough to notice when I shed, and it’s pretty disgusting.

Some females might leave their hair clogged up in the bathtub drain but I’ve noticed stray pubes on the bathroom floor from a previous male roomie, and it isn’t mine because I shave.

Hair in the drain though is disgusting, seriously, if you shed it, clean it up and don’t leave it for the next person to take care of it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found myself standing calf-deep in shower water, trying to investigate the source of this problem, only to find a wad of hair that best resembles a flattened dead rat clogging the drain. That’s nasty.

Being female I have to agree hair in the drain is sick. I clean it out… gross!

Thanks for sharing, Lovelies!
Are you mindful of hair clogging the drain? Do you always remove it or do you leave it for someone else to deal with it?

Haha, I’m like that guy in the picture (except a girl, of course). I am so disgusted by hair in the drain that I have to use a pair of my old tweezers to get them out, even if it’s my own hair in the drain. Ugh, it’s so gross, especially when it’s all damp and tangled and sudsy xp

My mom gags when cleaning hair. It really grosses her out.
When I was in college I hated living in the dorms because of all the friggin hair in the drains and on the walls. It’s hard to get it all a lot of the time, but I try to clean my hair out of the tub and sink. I have a tub hair stopper and it’s the greatest. Makes clean up so easy!

I collect hair while in the shower before they fall down. Yes I have the “Hair in the drain phobia”. I will avoid at all cost to have to pick hair up. G.R.O.S.S

Hair around the apartment is soo gross. I’m a girl with short, fine, blonde hair. My roommate has long, black Indian hair. I basically never spot my hair, sometimes strands will be on my clothes. Hers, however, gets EVERYWHERE. It’s so gross when I find her hairs in my bed. I think they get on my socks and then get transferred. I seriously clean up large clumps of it fairly regularly. Not cool.

Funny as I was showering today I was wondering if my hair was starting to clog the drain. No one else really uses my shower, until recently so I might actually start cleaning it. At least when I trim/shave and stuff in the shower at least.

when you tried NOT taking it out and it ended up clogging everything with a brownish color, you learn to take them out everytime and at least buy a filter so your job will be slightly easier.

My fiance and I both have ridiculously long hair….we recently had to buy one of those draino kits with the snake to unclog our drain and the hairball that came out was the size of a cat…I shit you not. Needless to say, it doesn’t really bother us until it comes time to deal with it. lol

I get so freaked out by it. Living in a house with 11 other girls who all have long hair makes it happen pretty often. We have a drain cover thing that helps to catch it but it still finds it’s way in there. When I’m pulling it out it just comes out in large chunks of long strands. I know it’s irrational but I always imagine the girl from the grudge is dead in the drain and I’m pulling the hair out of her corpse. Then I end up being so freaked out I have to have somebody come sit in there and talk to me while I clean. UGH! I hate that job most out of any of the household chores!!!

I shed a looooot of hair so I always try to collect it while I’m showering and throw it away after. Otherwise I would be clogging up my drain every other week. I also try to be more courteous when I go to my bf’s apartment and try to clean up all my hair from the bathroom floor there that I shed every time i brush or blowdry my hair. One of my ex’s remarked that when he was cleaning his bed, it was like picking up “spaghetti strands” all over the place.
Hair. It’s messy. So clean up after yourself.

yuck… hair in the drain…

When I moved in to my apartment, there was actually a “hair catcher” left in the shower that I now use. I’ve only pulled out a hair clog once, a few months after moving in. I’m pretty sure I didn’t contribute to most of it, but who knows…

Yes, I seen your Post on “5 things living with Boys’
Such a honest observation on the human habits..Refreshing 2 C topics such as those without feeling embarrassed about it..How bout blogs on “Men’s incessant need to Spit” or ‘Men’s disgusting habit of picking on their nose @ a Restaurant” Now those comments would be most interesting..LOL
Anyways back 2 the topic..Yes, Im usually very mindful as to the accumulation of hair in the shower drain..As ‘ tokyoexpressman’ made the comment - standing in ankle deep water or have no choice then but 2 reluctantly clean it..Ugh..
@Gorrific@xanga - Thats hilarious in a sense, but I sure can relate..Mine has yet 2 get that big..maybe a small rodent..

I used to gag when I had to remove hair from the drain, but when I moved out I realized I was the only one who would remove it before the water started getting disgustingly deep. Now if I get in and notice water collecting at all I just reach down and get it out because I can’t stand the collecting water. What’s really terrible is that the majority of it isn’t my hair, but I know the one it belongs to would never even bother to clean it out. My problem is that I’ll pull the hair out while I’m actually in the shower and because the trash can is out of reach I end up sitting the wad of hair on the edge of the tub, and then promptly forget about it. I almost feel bad that I forget it and someone else has to throw it away, but since I’m the only one who will pull it out I can’t convince myself to feel guilty.

I lived on Campus my first year of college. I had to share a bathroom with my roommate, and 2 other suite mates. At the time I had long hair, and still do. So, I shed hair pretty frequently. I normally brushed my hair before taking a shower. And cleaned my hairbrush out, that way I didn’t shed that much hair in the shower. I knew my other suite mates had long hair, they would shed, and not clean the drain out. It was pretty disgusting, when it was my time to take a shower. All these clumps of hair clogging up the drain, and I mostly cleaned the drain out. I didn’t want to look or feel all that hair when I took showers.

That’s why you leave a hair catcher over your drain. Makes cleaning it out that much less disgusting.
guest
I want to mention the hair catcher as well. When it’s just your very own hair and it’s not mixed with tons of shampoo and dirt and whatever icky things get caught in it *shudders* it’s really not that bad.
guest
We have something that catches the hair and each person cleans it after they take a shower.
guest
I’m gonna look for one of those hair catchers, even though my hair problem isn’t bad. It makes perfect sense.
guest
I don’t mind it. I just throw some drano down there every few months or right when it starts getting slow. I have my own shower though so it’s not that big of a deal to me.
guest
ugh I had to clean out my drain just recently. My gag reflexes start to happen…I suggest cleaning often! Just by looking at it and even trying to pull it out is… omggg *shrug*

It’s just hair?

My shower is outside
Which is good, since 3 foot long blonde hair would probably be a shedding nightmare in a regular shower.

You can also go to home depot and get hair clog remover. You just pore it down the drain and wait 10min, then rinse the pipes out and you are good to go.
