One Louisiana commissioner got so grossed out by a gaggle of young men in PJ pants at a local Wal-Mart, that he might call an end to the style’s run in public. Well, he was not pleased about the sloppiness of donning them outside the house, but the fact that one of the dudes in them also had himself slightly exposed probably tipped the scales.
Now Caddo Parish District 3 Commission Michael Williams, the disgruntled Wal-Mart shopper, wants to push an ordinance forbidding anyone in his parish to don such apparel outside of his or her home. Violation of such a rule would win the obligation to a few rounds of community service. Oh, and to be clear, Williams defines pajamas as “a garment sold in the sleepwear section of department stores.” [via Stylelite]
But what about pajama jeans? You know, those are for dudes now, too.
Do you think this ordinance will pass? If your community instated such a rule, would it affect you?

ugh it’s awful seeing people in pj pants in public. I never wear pjs in public. I would be ok.

I used to live there! I occasionally wear PJ’s in public, I don’t care.

As long as your bits are covered, I don’t care what other people wear in public. It’s freaking Walmart, what do you expect?

@Still_Bruhaha@xanga - But this guy was ‘exposed’! Ew! Agreed on if someone does it modestly, though.

It’s one thing to go out in sweats or yoga pants. Pj’s are not made to be worn outside in the first place.

If you want to look stupid, it’s your own prerogative as long as your bits are covered.

I just….what the….I mean, I never wear PJs in public nor do I live in Louisiana, but CHRIST. Talk about over-stepping your bounds. All these dudes in suits need to back the fuck off of everybody’s asses. Who knows, next Iowa will ban public swearing and then I’ll be thrown in jail. Can’t wait.

Unfortunately, I don’t think you can legislate good taste. The ordinance will probably be struck down on First Amendment grounds.

Boy, if we start banning articles of clothing just because we hate the way they look I’m in trouble. So much for my vintage 70s/80s style 2.5″ inseam shorts! Seriously!
Anyway, indecent exposure is entirely different and it wouldn’t be any different if your fly was down and going commando. As long as your bits aren’t showing, what you’re wearing is nobody’s business but your own. Period.
Your style is part of what makes you an individual and nobody should dictate that, with the exception of work/school dress codes. Period.

I always say PJ’s do not belong outside the house. I especially hate when people wear them to class. They don’t really at the college I’m at now but when I was in community college people did all the time. It’s digusting.

that would suck for me. Because I own quite a few items of clothing that may have been sold in the sleepwear section, yet I saw them and thought “This would be a cool shirt” and used it as such. Also I found a terrific pair of gauchos in the sleepwear section. For three stinkin dollars! and yes they were being sold as sleepwear.

I would never wear pajamas in public, but if people want to look lazy let them. It’s not like they’re wearing revealing clothing.
guest
I’d be totally happy with that!!

PLEASE DO IT!!!! People who wear pajamas in public are total morons. And they look hideous.

People are too concerned about what other people wear. Seriously. Get lives, people.

He can’t do that! The people of walmart website would lose critical material!

@StatelessPilot@revelife - this is well said. ‘Nads peeking through the gap is not visually appealing & not for the faint of heart…but…just as appalling is a zealous bureaucrat enacting laws banning attire based in his aggrieved sense of what he thinks constitutes “slovenliness”.

Pajama pants aren’t style. If anything throw on some sweats. Going out in what you sleep in is gross and makes you seem lazy. It’s funny how we need a law passed for people to realize that it’s not that hard to look formal. Or at least easy casual. Not wake-up-roll-outta-bed-go casual. All I can think about it past decades. Pajama pants would be frowned on times 1,000. 2012, we’re a trashy generation. Even grandpa who has breathing problems and a lack of motivation puts on trousers, a button up shirt, and nice shoes. Now bikini tops and ripped shorts showing your ass cheeks are acceptable. I just wish people would wake up and be more respective.

I’m not sure it’s a legitimate for it to become law, but I do wish people would put more thought into their outfits.

I wore pyjama pants into the gas station about an hour ago… I live in New Zealand. And I wanted an ice cream.

Plus I don’t actually sleep in my pyjama pants.
