You know when you’re waiting in line behind someone for coffee, you might think, “look at all these working stiffs. We’re all just part of the machine.” And then you see something like this. That’s the moment when it dawns on you that guy in front of you, Mr. Oh Hey I’m Just A Guy, NBD, might be on Rubik’s cube number 3,046 of his next mural. Put some protective headgear on to minimize the fallout and click on.

This guy sure looks like Mr. JustAGuy, until you see what he’s been up to. Pete Fecteau, the guy in the picture that isn’t MLK, is a graduate of Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the harbinger of my own self-loathing as I realize that my piece of paper saying I majored in fine arts means a load of nothing.

But this story isn’t about me, it’s about the math, conceptual engineering, design mechanics, and sheer labor that goes into a project like this. And all for the creation of something beautiful to the eyes and mind, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his birthday [via ifitshipitshere].
