I love buying really special pieces when I’m invited to a holiday party or dinner, but I’m notorious for leaving them in my closet after I’ve worn it once. Whether you shimmied the night away in a sequins, velvet or lace, you deserve to wear this special piece again and again. Here are four of my favorite ways to dress down a bold, holiday skirt.
AE Favorite Flannel Shirt, $29.99 at American Eagle
Honeycomb Cable Sweater, $54.99 at J.Crew
2. Sweater. Have a comfy cable-knit sweater you just opened and can’t seem to wear enough? Leave the leggings-as-pants at home and slip on your party skirt for a fun back-to-the-office outfit. Complete the look with a statement necklace and metallic flats.
Women’s Western Chambray Shirt, $26.94 at Old Navy
3. Chambray. Chambray shirts were everywhere as we transitioned from summer into fall. Roll down your sleeves and button it over a skirt or roll the sleeves up and tie the ends over a dress for a couple of easy, put-together looks.
Essential Striped Pullover w/ Hood, $14.50 at Forever 21
4. Hoodie. Hanging out with the guys, but still want to get someone’s attention? A pullover sweater is a great way to toughen up an ultra-feminine piece. Converse and tights have never felt so classy as when paired with a shiny skirt and your quirkiest hoodie.
What did you wear to your holiday party? Do you plan on wearing it again?

Awesome post! xo

Besides wearing it with a neutral casual sweater, I wouldn’t wear it with anything else. I find it to be a bit tacky, tbh.

None of these looks, except the sweater work and it doesn’t look good as it is shown. I like this look. I Like this one as well. If I was going to do denim with a sequin skirt, that is how I would do it. The only way I would mix a sequin skirt with a plaid/flannel shirt is if it were like the plaid/flannel shirts my mom and her friends wore in the early 80s that had sequin designs on them.

I could never bring myself to wear any of this stuff with a party dress, especially a sequined one like the ones in the picture at the top of the page. Sometimes mixing styles works, but in this case, I don’t think so.

I would wear the first one… but I’d probably just leave it for a night out during the weekend.

Honestly, it all looks a bit “morning after”. It looks trashy. Just save your dress for another night out. Don’t try and make something casual when it’s not.

Hmmm yeah, not feeling any of it.
