Until this year I had never ventured out into the scary world of Black Friday sales. Granted, I started at two in the afternoon, and I still managed to snatch up some killer deals, and it wasn’t that scary. But I was always accustomed to Black Friday’s equally demonic cousin, the after-Christmas sale. Every year as kids my sister and I had our real Christmas on the 26th when we went and spent all our Christmas money. Then my sister discovered and introduced us to the Amazon wish list, and Christmas was suddenly an under-the-tree event once more. So, cyber sales included, are you an after-Christmas sale shopper? What’s to be had from shopping the twenty-sixth?

The usual suspects have killer sales after Christmas, Best Buy, Target, Amazon, probably the Gap, J. Crew and all the other mall stores. They’re all shedding their unsold merchandise in preparation for the new year, so why not capitalize? The best thing to shop for is holiday gift-wrap and decorations. They’re dirt cheap after Christmas is over, and if you can muscle your way past the savvy-shoppin’ moms hoarding holiday bows, you’re in business. You might even shop for winter clothes or gifts for next year, and now that online shopping is so easy and practically at your door with their constant e-mails, it’s nearly impossible to not know that everything you ever wanted is discounted and just a click away.

But perhaps you prefer the ambience of Christmas to last just a little longer. Maybe you’re sick of holiday music and would rather not step foot into a mall till the next time the gift-giving season rolls around. Maybe it’s your one opportunity to relax after the holiday nonsense, make yourself a leftover turkey sandwich and sleep the day away. I think that’s what my December 26 looks like.

So, Lovelies, have you been there and done that with after-Christmas sales? Will you be hitting them this year, or is enough just… enough already?
