Hey Lovelies! We’ve done a bunch of posts recently on how to dress up your lips for the holidays, but we haven’t talked about what you can do to prep your lips for that final layer. Nothing is worse than wearing lipstick or stain over flaky, chapped or dry lips. The keys to soft, kissable lips are exfoliation and moisture. Making your own lip scrub is super easy and you can use ingredients you already have in your kitchen. Here are a few of my favorite recipes.
1. Honey Paste
What you’ll need:
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- a few drops of olive oil
- Small bowl and spoon
Finally, rinse your lips and apply a layer of olive oil to moisturize them.
2. Sugar Scrub
What you’ll need:
- 2 tablespoons of white sugar
- Honey
- a few drops of olive oil
- Small bowl and spoon
When you feel that you’ve covered your lips and rubbed them substantially, rinse and follow up with your favorite lip balm. (I love Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil.)
3. Coconut Oil Scrub
What you’ll need:
- 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon of brown sugar
- 1 infant toothbrush or one with soft bristles
- Small bowl and spoon
Let the mixture sit for about two minutes before rinsing it off your lips. Apply a thin layer of coconut oil to your lips for lasting moisture.
Have you tried any of these home recipes before? How did they work for you? If you have another recipe, please share it in the comments!

Not bad, I tried the first one right now. You can get away with less than a teaspoon. Best tasting dry cure, that’s for sure! Thanks for sharing.

thanks for this post, i haven’t tried any of those yet but i will be soon because my lips are so dry it’s disgusting . brushing them and putting vaseline on isn’t working =[

I just use sugar and honey. It works nicely, and tastes sweet if you inevitably get some in your mouth.

I was about to buy one of Lush’s lip scrubs. Maybe I’ll give this a try first.
