Thought you saw the last of Harry Potter? Well, all you fans can count your lucky stars, because a deleted scene from the last and final movie has been released, allowing for one last Harry Potter hurrah before the end — unless J.K. Rowling writes another Hogwarts-based book… which I seriously hope she does!
The scene was set to appear right at the beginning of Part 2 when the gang prepares to invade Gringotts by using some Polyjuice Potion. Harry also touches on his weird connection to the horcruxes, which because important in later scenes.
It’s not very long and not especially significant to the plot, but at least we got minute of Harry Potter greatness to prolong the end of a great series… again.
Do you agree with the deletion of this scene or do you wish it was in the movie? Why or why not? Do you want more Harry Potter?

I still really wish they hadn’t had that weird Harry-can-feel-the-horcruxes thing. The only thing that bothered me more was that Voldemort could feel them when they were destroyed. I mean, I get they had make it plausible that Harry would know somehow what the horcruxes were (because they obviously didn’t have much horcrux background in the Half-Blood Prince) but it was just ridiculous.
/done whining.
Yay for 40+ seconds of new dialogue!

@her_phantasmagoria@xanga - What do you mean, Harry can feel the horcruxes?
Oh, are you talking about the movies as opposed to the books?

@her_phantasmagoria@xanga - Harry could (as I recall) feel the Horcruxes in the books because he was technically a Horcrux himself. Then again, it’s been a while since I’ve read the books.

@thepsychoticraccoon@xanga - He could feel one if he was touching it, but so could Ron and Hermione – that’s why the necklace made them all moody and irritable when they were wearing it, Ron in particular because he was more predisposed to those emotions. But Harry couldn’t like…sense them from several feet away, like he does in the movie with the cup and the diadem. That was added, like the first commenter said, most likely because they cut out a few conversations with Dumbledore in Half Blood Prince that would have provided background for Harry having a rough idea of what the horcruxes were.
Yeah…I’ve read all of the Harry Potter books multiple times, as you’ve probably guessed by now. But at least my geekery is somewhat useful here.
As for the deleted scene…meh. I was much more disappointed about them cutting out Harry saying goodbye to the Dursley’s in Part 1. On the DVD there’s one completed scene with him and Petunia, in which she reminds him that he didn’t only lose his mother, she lost a sister as well. I liked that, it showed that Petunia did genuinely love her sister. The books were generally much more fair to Petunia in the end than the movies. The scene where Harry and Dudley say goodbye was unfinished, but I wish they’d finished it and included it, just to show some small development in Dudley’s character.

@annamariuhh@xanga - Definitely talking about the movies as opposed to the books. I was amazed that they changed things I interpreted as essential (or at least highly important) to the final book. Oh well. Different interpretations for different readers.

@EJC102486@xanga - yes! I wish they’d included that scene with Harry and Petunia

@her_phantasmagoria@xanga - I didn’t mind it. In the books, Harry’s going based off intuition, intelligence, and luck. That’s not really something you can show in the movies.
However, the glossing over a certain important character’s death scene….that made me mad.

@her_phantasmagoria@xanga - i felt the same way!! neither of them should have felt the horcruxes. if voldemort felt the horcruxes being destroyed, then he would have never gone to check the gaunt house and the cave to see if his horcruxes were still there. he would have KNOWN that they’ve been long gone.
the thing that truly pissed me off was the part after the fight (when trio is walking along the bridge) and harry is going on about the elder wand, i’m basically jumping up and down in my seat waiting for the reunion of harry and his wand. but what does he do? he takes a look at the wand, he takes the wand in his hands, BREAKS IT IN TWO, AND CHUCKS IT OVER THE SIDE OF THE BRIDGE. what just happened? you can never ever EVER fix your wand now. i almost cried out in the middle of the theater. the things they took out that i just thought were little but very significant made the movie almost sort of a letdown. i need to stop talking about this or i’m going to become angry again. *deep breath* i’m okay. it’s okay. it’s just the movie.
