I moved to Austin, Texas, a few weeks ago, where I’ve noticed an abnormal number of monarch butterflies. I’ve done butterfly nails a few times and I always get TONS of comments. If you’re already into nail art, this design is super easy, you just need patience and a steady hand.

What you’ll need:
Nail art pens, in both black and white
Nail polish color for your base (chances are you want something of the orange persuasion)
Black nail polish

1. Start with two coats for your base.

2. Use black nail pen to draw a half circle, a zig-zag and straight lines on your nails. I’m not really sure how to explain it so just make your nails look like the image above. DON’T FORGET TO DO A MIRROR IMAGE OF THIS DESIGN ON YOUR OPPOSITE HAND!

3. Fill in above the zig-zag with black polish.

4. After the black dries, dot it with white polka dots. I used both a paint brush and a nail art pen to alternate dot sizes, so it looks more realistic. Your final product should look something like that!

5. Hit ‘em with a clear coat and you’re done!
