When you’ve got this golden ticket in your hand, that is to say a cosmetology license, you gain entry to the professional beauty supplies where everything is around half the price you’d pay at a retail store. This turns a new OPI polish from a department store indulgence into the equivalent of a pack of gum at the register. This last time I picked up a shade I’d had my eye on from the new Muppets for OPI line, a shade called “Rainbow Connection”.

It reminded me of a magic wallet I got last year from J. Crew. The glitter being every color sort of just goes with anything, and people started stopping me at work and when I was out to ask me what the polish was. It did, however, take about five coats to get the density of the glitter to my liking, and after a top coat, the polish’s thickness proved too brittle to withstand more than a day without chips. Luckily a) glitter nail polish is pretty forgiving when it chips since it camouflages so well, and b) I got to improvise with contrasting solids on a couple of nails.

Possibly one of the cheesiest names ever given to an OPI polish, I mixed it up with “Do You Lilac It?” on a few nails. All told, I’m glad I got the polish because it’s sort of a show stopper for a party or event, and it doesn’t have a seasonal sway in terms of color. But it is sort of a one- or two-day polish, so don’t expect a Deborah Lippmann wearability out of it. And yes, that’s my cat as the backdrop to the second photo. Thanks, Casper!
