Marilyn Monroe died 49 years ago, but she still inspires women the world over. From Megan Fox having Monroe’s face tattooed on her arm (which is now in the process of being removed) to Lindsay Lohan naming her legging line “6126″ (Monroe was born on June 1, 1926), Monroe’s influence is more vast than other stars of her time – even Audrey Hepburn doesn’t garner as much idolatry. And if you’re a young celebrity in Hollywood, there’s usually a magazine or photographer who wants to do a “Marilyn Monroe shoot.” I think Lohan’s on her fourth; Hugh Hefner decided her reshoot for Playboy would be inspired by an early Monroe session for the magazine. Inside, check out the many Monroe-inspired photoshoots.
My Week with Marilyn was originally supposed to be released last weekend, but now won’t be released until November 23rd. Until then, we’ll have to wait to see if Michelle Williams can really embody the icon.
What do you think, Lovelies? Who gets the essence of Monroe the most right? What does the legendary Monroe mean to you in this day and age?

I love Drew Barrymore. I think she looks the best as marilyn.

Lisa-Marie Presley looked the most like Marilyn Monroe with the red lipstick. She had the bedroom eyes down pat. Late make-up artist extraordinaire Kevyn Aucoin did her make-up. It’s in his Making Faces book.

The look that Lisa Marie Presley is gorgeous, I wasn’t sure if that was Marilyn or not! I also like the pic of Michelle Williams curled up on the couch with a book, so sweet. I think that depicts a side of Marilyn that most people didn’t see her as. But, in the end, no one can really do Marilyn justice.

I like Marilyn’s expression on the first picture but her boobs look weird

Honestly, I think it’s tragic that her claim to fame rests solely in the way her body looked. She’s been more objectified than a Barbie.

@ohveryoung@xanga - It’s really sad, because she was in some great classics; in my opinion her claim to fame should be just as Audrey Hepburn… not because she wore a white dress and had a blonde bob. -_-

@ohveryoung@xanga - I agree. I mentioned on another post that Marilyn was very intelligent (GIFTED!!) but no one took her seriously. They played into her movie personal. That’s why before she died, in her last interview she told the guy dont make her into a joke. Marilyn was a very sweet, honest, loving woman who cared about people. She also staged a successful comeback for her final unfinished film & had more work planned. I dont think it was suicide either. I think either it was an accident (at least) but I think someone had a hand in it. A lot of things surrounding her death & future investigations never made sense & why would she kill herself after all that hard work? Plus when her house was being renovated in 1972, people found wiretap products that werent commercially available in the 1960s but were used by government officials…

Immitation is the highest form of flattery. Some of these are really cool but Lindsay and Brittany.. ehh

@Shinbi_Belldandy@xanga - I was reading your comment and I sometimes honestly question if it was suicide or not. Sometimes I really lean toward her killing herself, I read this one book called the Goddess and it talked about how she always talked about feeling alone, and like no body took her seriously. So that to me points it a little more to suicide. But after what you said in the last part, makes me think about it… lol.

oh my GOD, I am so sick of this woman and with the obsession with this woman. Move on already. She was not very talented. She relied almost solely on her looks, and I don’t know why everyone wants to perpetuate this shallow behavior and vapid way of existing.

Why is everyone so obsessed with her? Go read about her life. It wasn’t something to admire or emulate.

I like Marilyn Monroe. I think it’s a little weird that every single person has to do this photo shoot though. It’s kind of annoying haha. Copy someone else!

Is the 3rd picture Lisa Marie Presley? That picture definitely looks the best in terms of who looks the most like her. They all look pretty good, though. But I still think that Michelle Williams was a fail choice to play her in the movie. She doesn’t look like her at all.

her death will forever be one of those unsolved mysteries + i think that that is one of the reasons why we as a society will continue to be fascinated with her .

@heart_leigh@xanga - I have that book, it’s fantastic.
