I can not think of another word to describe the constant gut-wrenching feeling I have had in the pit of my stomach since Saturday morning when the alleged sexual assault case involving former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky became national news.
First, and foremost, I am disgusted that my university — a place that I spent the best four years of my life learning and growing and maturing into the person I am today — would let this one man ruin the reputation we have worked so hard to build. More Here…

@blondiedeam@xanga - basically Sandusky molested little boys and someone alerted Joe Paterno who reported and never followed up. Allowing his superiors to basically cover it up and ignore it. So Sandusky has been getting away with it for years. It came out. Joe P was fired and the students are mad. They overturned a news van and several lighting post.
Because Joe P was fired for not following up. They’re making a huge deal about it and only so many people are focused on the boys who where molested. It’s really sad.

@laughxlovextravel@xanga - Sorry are you there? I know tons of kids that go to PSU. The media is blowing it out of proportion. Sure they did turn over a news van but the media isn’t showing you the pain the students are going through or the support they’re showing for the victims. Tonight they held a candlelight vigil for them. And as for Paterno, he reported it but everyone else covered it up. And after 61 years of loyalty and all the money he has invested in this school, they fire him over the phone. And the game on Saturday is a blue out to raise awareness for child abuse. I have talked to some of my friends and they’re all sad about this. And if Paterno would have gone against his superiors, he would have likely lost his job either way. This is a sad situation for all involved especially since Penn State is one of the greatest colleges in the country.

@laughxlovextravel@xanga - 4,000 kids rioted out of the 45,000 students and 40,000 people who live there. I was just at the vigil we held for the victims. There were at least 10,000 people. It’s a terrible situation for our community and the victims, but people are making a huge deal about the reaction of a relatively small group and further distracting from the real issue.

@laughxlovextravel@xanga - Most of the students are angry because Joe Paterno was fired before the university president, the athletic director and VP who are both charged with perjury, and Coach McQueary who saw Sandusky rape a boy.

@voicimessecrets@xanga - @voicimessecrets@xanga - i am in the area, and i have a quick summary of what happened not including my personal opinions, because i’d rather not get into a debate about joe p. thanks.

@laughxlovextravel@xanga -okay well then I’ll also politely ask you to not include your personal opinions about the students or community.

@voicimessecrets@xanga - Haha, then I’ll ask you not to be so offended for giving my veiw on it or to think I care about how you feel about it.
I commented on a post with how I saw it. If you don’t like it you can get over it. Also, about 2/3 of the students agree with him being fired. (poll taken by local news station) Just thought I’d throw that out there. The other 1/3 are being idiots. Don’t bother replying to me. Unless of course you want the last word. Then you can have it.

I don’t understand the defense of JoeP that reporting it to the police would have resulted in him getting fired. What university is going to fire someone for pointing out a child molester? Either way, the guy who witnessed it should have went to the police and did put JoeP is a bad situation. I could see him not wanting to go to the authorities himself since he didn’t witness it, but he should have encouraged the witness to, on top of reporting it to his superiors.
Everyone pretty much fucked up. But JoeP less so IMO than the guy who witnessed it and his superiors. He deserved to be fired. But I rather the media focus not be on him. Let us not forget Sandusky is the real person people should be disgusted with.

I’m not much of a sports fan but this scandal caught my eye. I believe that no matter what your status is or what you have done for the community, once you have made a bad decision there should be repercussions. The fact that Paterno got fired, but many involved didn’t is supported by the way many job systems work. And Paterno was given a phone call because that was the fastest way to reach him before any news leaked out to the media. I discussed this in detail in my blog if anyone cares to read.
