Proenza Schouler began as two guys struggling, just like everyone else in New York, to get noticed. Since 2007 when their prodigious style sense was acknowledged by Vogue (spoiler alert if you haven’t seen The September Issue), the duo has continued to push the envelope with challenging silhouettes and daring sophistication. For Spring/Summer 2012, Proenza Schouler has introduced another round of surprising and exciting textured looks, and we love this one, above worn by actress Felicity Jones. Take a look at the strong elements of this look and perhaps the ways to integrate them into your everyday.
The embellished collar
ASOS Pearl Pointed Collar, $21.56 from Asos
ASOS Gold Sequin Collar, $21.56 from Asos
Embellished collars are bought as an accessory and give you the ability to dress up any top, and make a statement you won’t likely find on anyone else at the party. The choices range from subtle to loud, so it’s an easy trend to tailor to your style. They’re sort of a jewelry-accessory hybrid, and though we’ve been seeing them for a while, they’re becoming more wearable and easier to find. It’s so much easier to have a piece like this than it is to have a polo shirt you have to have dry-cleaned, am I right?
The textured A-line skirt
ASOS Midi Skirt In Rainbow Metallic Leopard Print, $64.69 from Asos
ASOS Midi Skirt In Metallic Fabric, $57.50 from Asos
The runway style is a little busy. It’s beautiful, but isn’t for everyone. So to make a quieter entrance, yet still stand out, try these A-line textured skirts. They’re meant to be balanced out with an understated blouse and shoes. Notice Jones isn’t wearing any jewelry either. These pieces speak for themselves, which is the cornerstone of groundbreaking fashion. Even if these aren’t your style, Proenza Schouler is broadening the horizons of sophisticated fashion, and I’m loving every moment of it.
Would you try these looks out for yourself? How would you tailor them to your style?
