To most of those located in the Northeast, happy Snowtober 2011! To commemorate this exciting event, I’ve compiled a list of five reasons why we should love snow even when interrupts our Halloweekend.
1. It’s pretty. The first snowfall is always the prettiest to me because I forget how nice it is to look outside the window and just stare at the cascading flakes.
2. You can make snow angels. Even when there isn’t enough snow to make a legible snow angel, it’s still fun to lay down on the ground and try.
3. It’s an excuse not to leave your dorm/house. I can tell my friend that I know we were supposed to go to the library this afternoon, but it’s too cold and we should just talk about our assignment via Skype instead.
4. You get to break out your cute winter jackets, scarves, boots, and gloves. When I do have to leave my dorm later, I can show off my winter clothing that everyone (including myself) forgot I owned when I put into storage.
5. It’s a reason to light a fire and break out the hot chocolate. It’s officially the season to curl up on the couch under a blanket with a mug of hot chocolate while a fire warms the room. This is what I call a perfect movie moment.
Now I know we didn’t have a huge blizzard to warrant any of these rituals, but our baby snowstorm still put me in the mood to do them, even if it is a month or two earlier than I normally would.
What do you love about the snow? Or do you even love it at all?

i really loathe the snow, and i’m actually quite furious with the weather gods for doing this “let-it-snow-let-it-snow-let-it-snow-in-october” thing to me. i wish it would only snow from the day after thanksgiving until new years day, and then jack frost could pack it in for the rest of the year.
i need to move to the west coast -.-

I can’t believed it snowed in October up north..that’s still crazy. I dislike the snow because it brings ice and also it can shut down roads and you still have to drive in it. It really does suck generally but I’ve always had fun playing in the snow for some reason.

I used reason No. 3 as my excuse for everything Saturday, haha.

I don’t see it very often, so I’m always happy to see snow.
But in Texas, people freak out when there’s snow/ice and driving can be a nightmare. Nobody knows to just slow down, it’s scary!
Other than that, snow is awesome. In February of 2010, we got about ten inches of snow, which is the most I’ve ever seen in person. It was lots of fun to play around in it.

I liked it when I was a kid and would play outside literally all day. Now when I have places to go…it sucks.

I absolutely love the winter.

Sorry but there is nothing “happy” about Snowtober. My house has been without power since noon on Saturday. We don’t even know if we’re getting power til Wednesday. There is nothing cheery or happy or cozy about this storm when you don’t have heat in your house and all the food in your fridge/freezer goes bad. I think you’re living in a bubble because this is a mess for people.

@carydeeluxe@xanga - Well I live in California and it’s really warm. Like T-shirt, shorts, and flip flops weather. It gets cold for a few days (50 degrees may not seem cold to East Coasters) then it gets 70+ degrees warm for another week or so.
I do appreciate the sunshine but it can get boring at times. We are due for a few showers on Thursday with a temp of 59 degrees. I am excited lol. After the showers we will be sunny again.
Our winters are cold with storms but not everyday. Most of the time we are 60+ degrees and sunny. If we want snow we have to drive hours to the mountains; which will be in Nevada or close to it.
I guess we experience the weather we get based on where we live.

Snow angels are the best!!!! Icicles too — but not on trees that still have leaves!

@millionofstars@xanga - freshmen year of college, most kids i knew were from california, and they were SHOCKED by our… well… seasons. i remember the first time it snowed, the cali-kids were out playing in it and dancing in it and whatnot. at first, i was thinking, ‘what’s the big deal? it’s just snow.” but i guess, for a lot of them, it was their first time experiencing it. and i think, after i got over my grinchy-ness, it was the first time i’d had fun in the snow since i was a kid.
so, that was all a long-winded way of saying, yes, i can totally see how the constant perfection of west-coast weather (it’s perfection in my mind) could be boring. i suppose i could always come back to the east-coast for the holidays :]

I love snow, but it sucks when you have to be places and the roads are a nightmare.

i used to love it when I was a kid but I hate it now.
The city I live in was hit by a horrible blizzard last year. My car was stuck in the garage because it was so much snow. My university didn’t cancel classes so I’m slipping and sliding trying to get to class. not cool.
