Women’s mag staple Marie Claire‘s South African edition issued a challenge asking six advertizing agencies to design posters that question our ideas of a perfect body. “We don’t all have the same body type but, regardless of this, we are all perfect,” editor Aspasia Karras said in a press release, describing the concept. “So, what is it going to take for you to love your body?”
The images come from Jupiter Drawing Room, TBWA, Canvas Lifestyle, King James RSVP, M&C Saatchi Abel and Ogilvy, respectively.
The series aims to to see how we feel about our body in relation to these ads versus how we feel about them with the touched-up perfection that companies usually smear across the Internet and billboards.
Do these ads change how you feel about your body? Which ad is your favorite?

I like the first or the fifth one. I think this is a good campaign idea and I hope it catches on elsewhere.

You are now going to get a wave of grammar nazis. Allow me to do this before other people jump in:
*advertisers *advertising

i’m just going to go ahead and throw this out there: i think this whole campaign is pretty trite. i found the vast majority of the images unoriginal and corny (except for the old lady on the slab– that was just disturbing), which i think speaks to the whole notion of “challenging perceptions of perfection,”: it’s corny and unoriginal.
i get it. body/appearance acceptance is important. but i’m really sick to death of this.

We need to take responsibility for our body image and stop putting demands on the fashion industry. They aren’t going to change just to flatter you and you shouldn’t expect them to. That’s how I feel about it.

Well, I would accept my body as perfect if I wasn’t carrying around extra weight that could lead to serious health problems. Im not going to love my body when the fat that builds around my stomach could lead to a heart attack. I’d rather love my body at a healthy weight.

i’m doing my senior photo thesis on something very similar to this topic. thank you for posting this- definitely going to go back to this for inspiration.

@Baseballchik138@xanga - lol, looking at your profile picture, there is no way you are overweight dear. You are gorgeous so SHUSH >:O

It’s like, look… not everyone is going to be pretty. Beauty evolved as a preference due to its evolutionary advantages. Some people are pretty; some are not. That’s life. Find something more important to gauge personal value on, and take care of yourself the best you can. If someone doesn’t think you’re gorgeous when you’re the best, healthy person you can be, then they’re not worth your time anyway.

Without exception, inner beauty seriously manipulates outer beauty. A person with a naturally beautiful face like big eyes and perfect cheekbones will look like a zombie monster to me once I find out they’re a bitch. The opposite is also true.

@OstentatiousEloquence@xanga - lol thanks, but I carry my weight on my hips/butt and thighs

@Baseballchik138@xanga - As do I. Having extra weight (to a point) on your hips/butt/thighs is actually healthier than not having enough for a woman. The lower your Waist-Hip ratio is, the healthier you are. Consequently it is also considered attractive globally, barring bizarre cultural trends like the ones we have in most of the west. Trust me, you’re beautiful. Luv it.

It’s kind of true, when I think about it. If it were not for the social pressures, coming just from what I think people who’re close to me and not, will think about how fat I am, it makes me worried about my weight. If it were not for that, I probably wouldn’t care as much, because as long as I’m fitting into the clothes I like and like the way it looks, I’m happy. But because I know people will say, oh wow, you need to take care of yourself, I feel badly about myself. I know, that’s sort of an “excuse” but it’s hard not ignore the opinions of others, especially those really close to you.

@rabbitsarecool14@xanga - Those really close to you need to be punched really hard in the face if they make you feel that way about yourself.
