Hipsters and models no longer rule the fashion blogs. The latest group to take reign over the garment-conscious blogosphere is (drum roll please…) Mormon fashionistas!
Mormon style bloggers rally to prove that it’s chic to be modest. They put together outfits that follow the rules of their religion, namely covered shoulders, knee-length or longer skirts and no cleavage. [via Racked]
I put together a gallery of pictures from some of the most popular Mormon blogs below. Do you Lovelies think it’s possible to pull off an outfit both demure and stylish?

Of course you can be modest and stylish! I am rather liking these outfits. They’re nice, and I like them even more knowing that they a bit more conservative. =]
guest
Yes, coming from a mormon that doesn’t quite follow all the rules…
I can rock some modest fashions and my SO loves them. He is not mormon, by the way.

I think they look fantastic! I like that they’re able to be conservative and still be creative.

I used to equate modest with frumpy, but after looking at a few of the blogs, it is not true. The women look classy and pretty. I don’t think I normally dress too revealing or sexy, but I think I suffer from “boring.” I think lots of people can benefit from dressing a little more conservative.

I like it a lot, especially the first one and the striped maxi dress. I’d wear it.

Personally I’m a guy that prefers modest and classy.
guest
i like the second outfit

It’s nice that they’re trying to be modest but still fashionable, but come on… Capri pants with pleats at the waist? o_0 Sorry, I really like what they’re trying to do, but none of these outfits look good to me. :/

Minority mormons? What a joke.
But seriously, I like modest clothes. Not always, but normally I don’t show so much, but my clothes are tight. And these women are quite fashionable.

well, perusing through lookbook most of these styles are scene everywhere on there, and most of the sytles are pretty modest.
It is always possible to be modest/ demure and very very fashionable, or rather, fashionable as in pleasing to the crowd
guest
Hooray for modest dress!

This isn’t a style I’d like to see on my gf, but not because it’s modest. I don’t care for the first, 2nd, and last, but the mid ones look nice. I know a lot of women/girls who like to dress modestly, and so I’m happy that there are people out there who enjoy making fashionable modest clothing.
guest
I like some of the outfits, like the second & last one! I find modesty is always a good thing but I like wearing low-cut tops as well.
guest
Yeah!

This is a joke, right?
guest
this is actually awesome – the styles are really cute and its actually something I’m going to check out because since I’m going to be a teacher I can’t exactly be wearing revealing clothing… haha
guest
It’s something I live by. I always dressed modestly, but my clothes were always very fashion forward!
guest
It’s refreshing to see modesty coming back into the fashion world. Leave something to the imagination
guest
moesty does not = boring, frumpy, or ugly. I like these looks.
guest
While these looks are okay, I’ve always been more comfortable with the “less is more” style (I hate going out because it requires clothing – hence I try to wear as less as possible to be comfortable). It’s cool that they can be stylish all while following the parameters of their religion, but I would not be happy wearing that much clothing. Then again, I’m not Mormon (thankfully) so I don’t have a problem. Kudos for them, I suppose.

i like only 2 from the pics. one with the long maroon vest, and the one that follows (dark olive shirt and jeans)

They look normal to me haha. They look nice.

Some are cute, some are a tad ugly but not because they are modest.
Personally, I believe God gave women breasts so they can fed their babies, not for them to be sex objects. And the sooner we get over the obsession some have with modesty, the better.

These are all so cute!

this looks normal to me. the only time i’m showing lots of leg and arms is in the summer or warmer weather anyway. i thought this was normal, especially for winter…you know sweaters and layerings?
guest
I like most of these outfits
guest
Hahaha. These are all so cute. I dress modestly normally. Why can’t girls understand that this looks more professional and composed?
guest
This is called mormon fashion ?
I call it : not dressing like a skank & covering yourself up
Which is something people tend to do a lot in the winter yenno cause its cold ?
rose / 791 posts
@lovelikewintergirl@xanga - lol, you’ve obviously never lived somewhere where it actually gets cold if you think they’re wearing a lot of clothes :-/

This reminds me how Muslim girls, both at my college in Philly and when I lived in Cairo, would manage to be modest, wear the hijab, but still be very fashionable. I think both show how you can cover-up, be modest, but still be fashionable.
My attempts to be modest (in Egypt) had me looking like a colorful Amish woman. It was bad haha.

4th picture, girl with the purple shaw sweater on, DREW BARRYMOORE IS THAT YOU?!?

@headtrippp@xanga - She does look like Drew, I didn’t notice until you pointed it out!!

I love it, to be honest.

I think the outfits are cute and stylish, but I wouldn’t ever compare someone wearing such an outfit to a religion. They just look like regular outfits to me. But I understand the message they’re sending. Good for them.
guest
a couple are cute, but most of them are ugly. i do enjoy dressing like a lady though. you can also be sexy and modest. i’d rather go for that
guest
I’ve never shown cleavage in public. ew
Some thighs and shoulders and upper back, yes.
guest
@written_conversations@xanga - I live in Maine. It gets extremely cold here but I’m perfectly okay with the frost-bitten feet that come with wearing open-toed high heels and short skirts in the winter.

@headtrippp@xanga - That’s what I thought!!!
I think this is a great example of a religion that has successfully integrated into a modern society without loosing its core values. Props to them. Other religious (particularly more Catholics/Christians) should take a lesson.

I personally think these outfits are hideous and look like things that a person from the jungle with no fashion sense, who just arrived in the big city would wear or fob-style
that’s the impression that I get from these mormon chic outfits and other hipster outfits.

@carpeD_M@twitter - Can you recommend any stand-out examples?
guest
I like all these
guest
I’m not a mormon, but I prefer to dress modestly.
guest
Stylish doesn’t always mean showing off private parts. Of course when one is not feeling pretty then one goes to the sexy side of the appeal. Being modest got its own challenges but in my point of view.. a modestly dressed girl appeals to me more than a girl dressed like one I see in a strip bar.

The title is misleading… technically, it’s not “hot” to be modest. But it can be fashionable, and I think (and hope) that’s where you were going with this.
guest
Yes, I personally think everyone can and SHOULD!
guest
@swtaznxtc90@xanga - ha, I was just about to cite you as an example of how modesty and fashion can work together.
guest
I love it, I think its very cute!

@birthskin@xanga - The bloggers are all Mormon, according to their blogs. So I’m not just calling them Mormon-esque or anything!

Whatever lights your candle.

They do a good job with the constraints that they have to work with, but it’s still sub-par.

@AshleyK - Hehe, I know!

Well, “modest” is a wide word including many things. Those pictures are… normal ? Classic style, a bit stylish but very common. I thought that Mormon girls have to wear veils on their hair or more covering clothes. But if Mormons try to be fashion, it’s a nice opening I guess (no mormons in my country, or they are well hidden !)
Being “Modest” during autumn/ winter : it’s easy, almost everyone is when temperatures are lower than 10 °C.But under temperature dealing with 30 to 40°C.. well… lol

Although I do like that you are showcasing modest fashion, focusing on just one group is kind of boring! What about the number of stylish Muslim girls out there who put together some gorgeous outfits while still managing to cover up? Some of my favorite style inspiration comes from my Muslim friends, and blogs where bloggers show that you can cover up while still being gorgeous and fashionable. A lot of these outfits aren’t my style, but the bloggers rock them. I think it would be an interesting series if you were to showcase the varieties of fashion that you can find for women following their religious guidelines while still following religious mandates. However, this could just be me since I grew up in a town where I was surrounded by gorgeous Muslim women and count a lot as close friends. A lot of Chinese/Japanese/Korean fashion is also quite modest, and relies on layering for a stylish look. This could also be attributed to my upbringing and cultural background.
