Or maybe gaga just let everyone know it’s totally cool to express yourself, and you don’t have to be normal. So people are taking advantage of that.

I am actually quite surprised! Lady Gaga’s like a fashion tornado.

X-tina, Beyonce, and Rihanna have been around longer than Lady Gaga. Maybe those three felt it was a time for a change and needed to grow so they switched it up. Lady Gaga may/may not necessarily have had an influence.

I cant stand anything Gaga does (unless its a rare video of her actually SINGING, like when she sings “Orange Colored Sky”!) However I do like that she encourages everyone to embrace their weirdness (which is especially important for young people to know). At the same time, I feel like she’s become all about her shock value, and these other artists have picked up on how that shock value sells. Im not a fan of any of these women’s music, but I think Katy looked cute before with her cute and quirky style. Rhianna used to be very pretty (well I guess she still is, but I prefer her old style), and Christina was GORGEOUS after she went the old Hollywood glamour route. Anyway, I guess the whole thing is good and bad to me.

I bet their producers convince them to do it because Gaga’s such a hit..they dont realize that being original is what makes success…not copying somebody.

Dress as crazy as you want, I still am not a pop fan.

Oh, please. It’s jealousy and also possibly pressure from the label to emulate a formula that’s selling.

I prefer the before photos.

To think that anytime an artist does something eccentric they’re automatically being influenced by Gaga is an extremely ignornant stand point.

It’s funny to see that, at least in those photos, Nicki Minaj adopted her signature constipated face after she started dressing in the dark and piling on the makeup. o_o

@hopethatitglows@xanga - That’s what I was wondering! I still remember seeing her amazing swan dress at the Oscars in 2001, which, if I remember right, got her a lot of attention/criticism. Maybe she’s overlooked because her music doesn’t always appeal to mainstream music-lovers. She’s incredible though! 

I wouldn’t say it’s so much because of Gaga, except for Nicki Minaj.  And Katy Perry.  Other wise, it’s just a style change.  Especially Beyonce & Rhianna.

I think christina aguilera and rihanna’s sexy dominatrix style is influenced by janet jackson’s signature liquid latex corset outfits than gaga. I love Janet

If she dressed up in a steam punk outfit for one showing, and a steam punk star came out, would they be copying her and just wearing that style because they like it?

All of these women were so beautiful before Gaga exploded with shock value, giving everyone a mandatory, “keep up with me or get lost in the media” sort of thing. 

It’s sort of sick if you think about it.
Nicki is really the only one who looks like this dramatic appearance has made her more attractive, even if she does look awkward sometimes.

FINALLY!! This post is great. I think it’s so annoying. I liked all their styles before they copied. Now to me they are all just copy cats and not cool and original anymore. WEAKSAUCE.

And these photos are extremely biased. Its easy to find older pictures of someone looking “normal” but that doesn’t mean they suddenly transformed who they were because of Gaga. Like hello, Rihanna’s Disturbia? Thats been around for a while now, I’m almost positive its been around since before Gaga was popular. Where’s that photo?

And how about Katy Perry’s Ur So Gay? She didn’t dress very crazy, but she’s always had an offbeat style and what not.

I think it’s extremely ignorant to think that Lady Gaga has so much influence on these grown ass women. I mean Beyonce was making millions before Gaga came on the scene. She hasn’t missed a beat since then and I don’t really think too much has changed. I agree that maybe Gaga is allowing celebrities to be more out there without getting totally thrashed in the tabloids. However I don’t think she’s influencing them or that they are copying her, which is clearly what this post is saying. Also from a business standpoint, it isn’t out the realm of possibility that these women’s managers or image consultants have them doing this because it’s proven to bring in lots of money/attention.

Yeah I’m not so sure why.. because rihanna just looks scary.

xtina definitely has reinvented herself multiple times. Especially when she did the “Dirty” video, she trumped everyone in “reinventing” themselves. Ms Minaj has always had multiple personalities since she first began. Now, they’re more obvious because she chooses to make them appear. However, Gaga has been more of a “it’s okay to be weird as fuck” vibe and influence.

not to mention the fact that Gaga in her first few videos, she was “normal” and was fitting to the whole “industry” image. don’t be a hypocrite.

Christina was doing the dominatrix  thing before Lady Gaga became popular.  Beyonce always wore dramatic stage ensembles.  Lady Gaga really is not that revolutionary.

YES THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING!  They’re all trying to out-weird each other.  I hate it, they need to focus on the music, as each artist seems to be getting progressively worse as well — with the exception of Beyonce.

Whenever someone dresses weird, you can’t blame it on Gaga since weird existed before her.

There are other influences in the world besides Gaga.

I think it’s more like Lady Gaga was able to show them that it’s okay to be more crazy and different. So it’s not like they’re copying her, they’re being more fun and creative.
