There were a lot of beautiful stars out in New York City on Fashion’s Night Out and Glee star, Lea Michele was one of them. The Gleek stopped by Saks Fifth Ave with some of her Glee team to meet and greet with fans and, of course, celebrate fashion. The actress looked great in a semi-sheer black wrap dress and booties, but her hair and makeup was what impressed me the most.

Unlike her Gleec haracter, Rachel’s signature polished style, Lea showed off an edgier side with her hair and makeup. Lea’s soft waves and smokey eyes make for a sexy look, perfect for a night out.

There are a couple of ways to create waves like Rachel’s:

If you have a natural wave or soft curl in you hair, apply a small amount of a mouse to damp hair, try Herbal Essence’s Tousle Me Softly Mousse, and blow dry hair with a diffuser. The mousse will tame fly-aways and add body while the defuser encourages your natural wave. If you do not have a diffuser, scrunch hair with your fingers while blow drying.

If you have straight hair, let your hair dry naturally and then with a 1″ curling iron or bigger, your hair around the barrel and hold for 10-20 secs. Once you have curled all of your hair, allow your curls to cool off (about 10 mins after) and then break the curls up by brushing your fingers through or by simply shaking them out.

If you have curly hair, start with straightened or blow dried hair and with a curling iron, add waves (follow instructions above).

Now that you have the hair down, you can focus on the makeup. Start off with a light base of foundation or tinted moisturizer, a product with an illuminating ingredient will you the same glowing look as Lea.

Next, contour your face by brushing bronzer under your cheek bones, along your jawline, and across your forehead. Once you have applied bronzer, get Lea’s rose flushed cheeks by applying blush on the apples of your cheeks and up towards your temples. The trick is to not go too heavy on either, the looks is supposed to be fresh, not caked on.

The last step in getting Lea’s look is her smokey eyes. When it comes to smokey eyes, color preference is really up to you, some people prefer a classic black, some like to add color, and some like metallics. A new take on the smokey eye is a hint of blue, nothing too bright, but a dramatic shade of grey-blue. The key to a smokey eye is to apply the darkest shade along your crease and in the outer corners, then making sure it blends well.

Once your eyeshadow is set, line your eyes with a liquid eyeliner to create a perfectly winged out line. Lastly, get Lea’s full lashes by applying a few coats of mascara and winging out the lashes in the outer corner of your top lids. Maybelline and CoverGirl make great products for a dramatic eye.

Lea keeps her lips natural, but if you are in the mood for a little more color, I would suggest a light color with a subtle sheen.

What do you think of Lea’s look? Will you be trying her hair or makeup?
