As Beyonce once said, “Who runs the world…girls!” Women in their 20s and 30s are landing jobs in the corporate world right and left. These younger generations are really making a name for themselves and differentiating themselves from older people in the business.
With that said, young professionals are more up-to-date with style and need to bring a new idea of power dressing to work. So, how does a young professional do this? I have found some clothing options for independent women in the work force that will keep you professional and looking stylish.
Textured pencil skirt, $69.50 from Banana Republic
This is a perfect example of a nice textured skirt, with a great neutral color. This color pairs well with an arrangement of colors and apparel. Also, any color shoe would work as well.
Amanda Shoe, $80.00 from American Apparel
This English-inspired shoe is the perfect way to bring a classic look to your outfit at work. The color works for any season, and the slight heel will give you a professional edge. They have support for walking on busy days and stylish edge to get you noticed in the office.
Colorblock Chain Bracelet, $4.80 from Forever 21
This color block bracelet is a great accessory for work because it’s sleek and rich looking, but at the same time it keeps you young and edgy at the office.
Commodore coat, $89.99 from J.Crew
This combination of a trench and a cargo jacket is the perfect touch to any outfit for work. The color is beautiful and can be worn with any color, like the color blocking trend we see in the picture. It also gives you a masculine look for the office, which helps you stand out even more.
I hope some of those ideas help to inspire you when thinking of new ideas to spruce up your office attire.
What other ways do you stay stylish in the office?

Beyonce sampled Major Lazer’s “Pon de Floor” for that song. SMH not okay with me.
On another note: none of these items will be appearing in my professional wardrobe. Black pants, button-down, and blazer with peep-toe pumps are classics and need not be altered.

Right except those of us who are in their 20s & 30s and just starting out in the “real world” aren’t going to be able to afford these things.

@starcrossedloversdivine@xanga - yeah, i noticed that when her song first came out. but so many well known artists sample songs nowadays that it’s hard to find ones that don’t. it’s practically become the norm.

@starcrossedloversdivine@xanga - Agreed. That’s my wardrobe too.

@starcrossedloversdivine@xanga - Some offices might prohibit peep toes. I do wear my black pants to work almost every day though.
Agree with you on the pencil skirt. Flat oxfords and chunky jewelry aren’t very office-like. I wear basic flats or heels and simple jewelry to work.
The coat – I think just a trench coat would be better… you won’t be wearing your coat in the office, minus when you get there and when you leave. A trench looks more professional.

@lttlegel - exactly. Maybe pick some more affordable things? There’s no way I can afford anything on this list. Be a bit more realistic.

@annnyah@xanga - Like the classic remix “Show Me Love”, feat on a recent Jason DeRulo song. I guess I can’t complain about the resurgence of electronic music into the pop scene, because it’s helping formerly unknown DJs out, but some people just ruin things by sampling them. (IMO)

@written_conversations@xanga - But you can use the looks & find cheaper alternatives. That’s what I do!

Just saying, I hate the whole women’s trend revolving around wearing men’s styled suits. We don’t have to be and/or dress like men to make it in the work place… I just feel that trend is all about hiding your femininity because it’s “not okay” to be feminine and a serious worker. Then again maybe it’s cool because society doesn’t force us to walk around in a-line dresses all day long.
Anywayyy, for the quality I think a lot of these are quite cheap… I mean, anything from J Crew for $90 sounds inexpensive to me. Plus, you could buy a similar styled jacket from Forever 21 for like, a third of the price, but it’ll probably last a year or two. Things from places like J Crew should last waayyyyyy longer. So you’re getting your money’s worth. Not only that, but it’s good to buy nice quality basics (pencil skirts, nice pair of shoes, black pants, etc.) because they’re wardrobe staples. They’ll last forever if you take good care of them.

are you really going to use that sexist beyonce quote?

Women in their 20s and 30s are landing jobs in the corporate world right and left. <–who are these women and how can I be one?

that stuff is outrageous and ugly. not power dress. power dress is matching suit jacket/blazer with skirt or slacks and dressy shoes. neat hair and minimum classy jewelry.
