Rebecca Black’s “Friday” co-star “that girl in the pink shirt,” Benni Cinkle, gets her own music video.
The video titled “Can You See Me Now,” was released on Cinkle’s Youtube page August 31. The video features teens going through difficult situations, check out the video:
The song and video have a message, but I think they don’t mesh well. What do you think of the video and song?

I watched it and I like it better than Friday. Yeah, the chorus doesn’t fit well with the message or verses, but the fact that it has a message, and a really good one, earns major props from me. She sings better too. I think she’s got potential!

So various serious messages going on here, and then they start dancing around? LOL what the eff?

wish the music wasn’t so retarted. the idea is great and everything.

@MissAshley - hah..yeah…I think I see what they’re trying to do, but those are pretty serious issues to say “oh well, let’s just dance!”

^I agree with all of the comments above^ : )

what the hell..sounds monotone..

I wish I could be Rebecca Blacks best friend, I’d get serious bank

These problems do not require standing up and shouting, they require serious medical/legal intervention.
guest
god that was awful. why did you tell me to watch that?
guest
lol are you sure thats the same girl? hahah. Same autotuned terrible singing and video as friday. Its a good concept though

Better then friday. not that that is an accomplishment
guest
I agree with all the above comments.

I take into consideration that she is only 13 (14?) and is just trying to send a message, and use her “fame” to do good. It might not be that great, but she gets an A for effort.
guest
I can’t think of any word but “disgusting.” The whole thing is just disgustingly ridiculous.

Well, I really enjoyed the video, actually. The message was deep and it was better than any one her age could do. Unfortunately, it’s a music video so we must take the musical quality of the video into account, and it was awful. She is not a talented singer at all and you can hear the auto-tune saving her.
guest
@Digital_Angel21@xanga - this is true! while my above comment still stands, I have nothing against her. goodness knows I wasn’t exactly producing music videos at that age! the idea is good. the execution could use more work…but again, if i were to attempt this i’m sure i would fall flat on my face.

I think they are trying too hard with stereotypical troubles that teens these days are going to… trying to directly hit home with many people to garner a large supporting audience. Good marketing?
guest
@MissAshley - Yeah. I’m seriously creeped out.

I’m still holding out for the day when when music videos start to involve actual musical talent. But I’m afraid that won’t happen until after the zombie apocalypse occurs. I’ll have to make sure me and all the musicians I know survive and we’ll just start the whole shit circus all over again with no autotune and no youTube. Eventually as society re-grows itself I’m sure it will go to crap again over centuries.

I would be pissed if I were Rebecca. She got the shittiest song from this company.

Just… as… horrible…
guest
hahhhahahahahahhahahahahahaha.I can’t even begin to imagine who thought this was a good idea.
guest
It’s better than “Friday.” Of course, “Friday” is a steaming pile of revolting excrement, so I guess that’s not saying much.
@needmoreink@xanga - RAmen to that!
guest
Three minutes and thirty seconds of my life that I will never get back.
guest
Um, I don’t like this… I mean, the message is somewhat good? But I like Friday better.
guest
I don’t know. I think it’s awkward, yes, but in an attempt to appeal to people who otherwise wouldn’t care. On her youtube, she talks about how she wants to use the attention to bring awareness to issues she really cares about, and that’s already doing something pretty unconventional. It’s for a good cause though, and I admire the effort and I can sort of see where she’s maybe coming from in doing things the way she has… I’m not so sure it will exactly work out quite right, but I still admire the effort, and she still seems rather talented and her heart is definitely in the right place at least.
I mean watch this video and see if you can STILL criticize what this girl is doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uaJs7n_UqU&feature=channel_video_title
It’s not quite like Friday either, I don’t think. She supposedly wrote the song herself, where ALL of Friday was done by a company, and the company that worked with her on the video was a different one. But the work that went into this song and video IS primarily hers, and she IS a little kid, with no real experience, so expecting it to be the most refined thing ever is unreasonable. It’s fairly good when you take that into consideration. So it isn’t something to compare to Friday… Friday was being done completely by a professional company who was being paid big bucks, they should have done it right, and it was a huge disaster. This is something thrown together by a little girl with hopes of making a real difference, so it’s a totally different thing and it’s important to note that.

This was worst than Friday. This girl isn’t as cute as Black. She can’t sing. I like the idea of songs that address teenage issues but… The video pretty much did that for it… Which defeats the entire purpose of the song itself. I mean, if you just listen to the song.. None of this was address as blatantly as it was in the video. When it comes to music, the song has to be the main interpreter, not the video.
guest
Better than Friday, but still mediocre, imo…
guest
What’s the message?
guest
I don’t recognize her without a moustache and accordian.
guest
I think it’s cute!

@interludeB@xanga -
You know a lot of the videos that get produced along with the music are rarely ever the music “artist’s” ideas. A lot of it is on the production side…”The Industry”.
Human beings sang just fine without auto tune.
This is why I stay underground. The majority of what is produced by The Industry is garbage. Underground remains underground because going mainstream eliminates that threshold. The threshold between mainstream and underground music is like light and day. There’s hardly ever any quality in any of the music in radio and for those who beg to differ, maybe it’s because you have nothing to compare it to? I have respect for a small fraction of mainstream artists. The genres may not appeal to me but their biographies are amazing. T.I, Nicki Minaj are just the two I can name off the top of my head (Gotta love VH1 for doing specials on them), their music may not be the best but if you take the time to read their biographies it’s truly inspiring.
As for the hip-hop rap scene. They’ve all either gone mogul or to producing or just backed out of mainstream completely. Music trends are horrible and with technology and all the flashing lights and bells and whistles it honestly in my opinion belittles an true artist with all this extra crap.
Why can’t I just listen to talent? Why do I have to listen to a machine assisted voice. I was just listening to some classics from the Jacksons, I can’t tell by singing voice who was off but someone
was
slightly off key in a minor. Who cares? Overall their talent was and still is amazing. Now even if you can’t sing you just auto tune your shit and even Lil’ Wayne can “sing” *shivers*
Technology is truly a double edged sword. There comes a time when technology becomes detrimental to society than beneficial and there’s hundreds of books that talk about that, but that’s for another discussion.
To end this, I challenge people to go on Youtube (the best source for unheard of artists) find some song you like then just start clicking related links. Off the top of my head if you like jazz, instrumental, some classical I can name some hip-hop and other artists.
-Emancipator relaxed instrumentals smooth beats
-Nujabes jazz, classical, instrumental, hip-hop rest in beats.
-DJ Okawari, classical/jazz/cultural/traditional with a mix of hip-hop.
-J Rice (I consider him underground) RnB wonderful voice…does a cappella as well. Ladies you’ll love his voice trust me.
-ArtOfficial jazz, live band (it really is!), hip-hop
-Nomak jazz, insturmental, hip-hop
-Mateo RnB, haven’t done my background research on him but he looks legitimate.
-Aesop Rock rap, hip-hop. If you’re familiar you know Aesop is a genius with lyrical word play.
-Underground Resistance techno, electronic.
Tried to put a little something for everyone. If you don’t like rapping or hip-hop at least look at the lyrics. I’m not going to name artists unless the content is there. They have deep messages and if you take away the instrumentals it’s poetry. Read the lyrics they hold extremely powerful messages.
Don’t mean to hijack your thread OP, just letting people know there’s better music than ^ support real artists I’m all for it. Real talent deserves to be acknowledged.

Is this real life?

oh YAY! I just love hating on children! It’s so wonderful to see adults bashing kiddos. Gives me so much hope for humanity. After the death threats and sexual violence threats that Rebecca received, I applaud this girl for putting herself out there. This song was meant for tweens. Are you a tween? No? Then of course you won’t like the song. You are not her target audience.

Good message, but her “voice” is annoying the crap out of me.
The dancing part is also weird (like it’s kind of thrown in?), although she is saying dance with her….
guest
@nihaokeisha@xanga – Benni wrote the song herself.
